Gary Johnson Gary Johnson: ‘I Will Continue The Ron Paul Revolution’

Incorrect, his main stated problem with NAFTA was a loss of national sovereignty.

And he has also objected to the fact that its regulations, not genuine free trade.

What you are thinking is that he said you don't need all those pages of regulations for "free trade", just a single sheet of paper. But that was not his core reason for being against it. His reason is/was loss of sovereignty.

Regardless, I was objecting to a point made by somebody who thinks there shouldn't be free trade in many instances, and Paul disagrees.

Of course, National Sovereignty is a dirty word to many Libertarians isn't it and I'm not the only one to get the impression that GJ is one of them.

Sorry to have been a tad vituperative, but too many libertarians are, like Gov. Johnson, just missing in action on the topic of national sovereignty. They basically don’t believe in it. -- John Derbyshire

Neither does Paul, that's my point. Both men want to audit and restrain the fed as a matter of executive agenda. Only Paul speaks about eventually ending the fed, but you know what, if we stopped being so divisive, I'll bet that eventual agenda would filter better throughout the entire movement.
If Gary Johnson and the libertarian party would endorse Ron Paul that agenda would filter even faster.

I think the problem there is the fact that Paul might not win his primary - in fact I hate to say it but its very likely he won't win. The LP is the backup. GJ has said he's prepared to demure if Paul wants to switch over.

Per Weigel, Benton just said there's no chance Ron will endorse Gary Johnson.

Paul simply won't endorse. That's why the LP was so quick to spring into motion. Paul has too much to worry about in 2012 - his son and however many Paul Congressmen win this year will wear the RP Republican brand, if Paul doesn't tow the line they're ruined.

yes. because we need them to win in the generals. it is in the libertarian's or any third party interest to help Ron win.

I just stumbled on the forum to see what people might do now. I've always been a little surprised that Gary Johnson doesn't get more support. What am I missing? The guy was a great governor and has virtually the same views on everything as Ron Paul. It reminds me of how some Libertarians don't like Milton Friedman and a lot of the Ayn Rand people don't don't like Ron Paul.

What are people hoping for? You've got like 5 libertarians in national politics. For the people saying "no one but Paul,"are you planning on him running again-
and winning? I just don't it get but maybe there is something I'm missing. I voted for Paul. He isn't a cult leader though. I even saw some lunatic railing against Rand Paul for not being hardcore enough on youtube. Just craziness.

He absolutely was a great governor. Milton Friedman introduced me to free market economics and the ideas of liberty, and so you can count me as a huge fan. Also a fan of Rand.

Gary Johnson was, without doubt, a great governor. He should have run for senate. A PPP poll showed him in the 20% range if he would have changed over from running for president to running for senate. What an opportunity, unfortunately missed.

I appreciate what Gary Johnson has done for the liberty movement but I do not think that him running on the libertarian line is going to accomplish much of anything. He will doubtless do better than Bob Barr, and might even score a few percent nationally when it's all said and done, but he won't get in any debates and he won't receive major media coverage. He also won't have the money to run any kind of serious campaign nationally.

As for those that rail against Rand Paul and so forth, let them rail. They're not accomplishing anything.

Cult as in sticking to our principles? There is no shame in that. There is no reason we can not rally for the multitudes of new liberty candidates(and become them ourselves) yet one must not sway from the reason you are fighting. I do not get behind stickers, I get behind ideas.

That's just it, I'm hoping that the majority of Ron Paul supporters are in it for the ideas and not just worshiping the man as so many did with Obama and routinely do with celebrities. I know that they all love the ideas when it's Ron Paul spouting them but when it's someone else who's presentation may not be as compelling I hope that they won't reject them. Like Ron comes from a time period and a background when people had better personal values than today i.m.o. I think that in comparison it's hard for anyone under 50 not to come off as a greasy politician, even if their policies are pro-liberty and their motives are pure. There's only ever gonna be one Ron Paul but the concept of liberty doesn't have to go with him but I'm afraid that it will because no one's ever gonna measure up in the minds of those who love him.
