Gary Johnson Disputes Rand Paul’s Libertarian Cred

My main point is what I highlighted in yours. To think the LP has any other goal (such as, getting Rand elected) is insulting and laughable.

So the Libertarian Party doesn't care about restoring liberty in America? They only care about their party?

That I agree with. Now if they think getting Rand elected is good for the LP they may support him but I'd be surprised if they felt that way.

Everyone keeps talking about Bob Barr, but I don't think he'll be running in 2016.

OK. And then Gary Johnson the election after that, and I could see him running. I don't see the LP as being determined to nominate libertarian purists, especially when it means putting that over political credentials.

Honestly, if Rand did run as a Libertarian, I think he'd get their nomination.

Granted, with him running as a Republican, I'm sure they'll still nominate their own candidate. It's a toss-up whether or not that candidate will actually be more of a libertarian than Rand. But that's all theoretical anyway, since they're not serious about anything.

I hate to say I agree with Collins, but I do in this case. Having libertarian blowhards like GJ distance themselves from Rand is doing his work for him.

While Rand may be as "libertarian" as the GOP can stomach, he's not enough to gain the nomination of the LP, and it would be insulting to ask them to forego fielding a candidate just because Rand is the GOP nominee. If Rand really had the libertarian cred that his dad has, there would be no reason to worry; no candidate the LP would nominate would be a threat to Ron. So, why are you guys even worried about Gary Johnson? If Rand > Ron, or even = Ron in the minds of libertarian voters, you'd have nothing to worry about.

The LP isn't even that libertarian. Gary Johnson isn't a libertarian either.

this is a good thing. when the media smears him as a "filthy libertarian" he can point out how he's actually not :)

We are talking about Bob Barr because you said Rand is not libertarian enough for the LP.
If Rand had challenged Barr for the LP nomination in '08, I would have backed that plan all the way (once it was clear his dad was out of the GOP running). Maybe then Rand could have unleashed his libertarian cred.
