Paul campaign: NV GOP caucus in chaos
BUSINESS WIRE
Posted: 1/18/2008

The Ron Paul 2008 campaign is calling on the Nevada State Republican Party to re-examine what it calls "multiple inconsistencies in the Nevada Caucus process," and is asking to postpone the caucus, which is scheduled for tomorrow.

“The inconsistencies, errors and multiple changes in the rules reek of playing politics with what should be a neutral process,“ said Ron Paul 2008 campaign manager Lew Moore. “The people of Nevada deserve to know exactly what the rules are and to know that those rules are being fairly enforced. This has not happened up to this point, and the caucus appears to be in chaos.“

The campaign said they were concerned about reports of Nevada Republicans receiving postcards with incorrect caucus location information, and the fact that the Nevada GOP website had incorrect caucus locations listed as late as Jan. 16.

The Paul campaign also said the Nevada Republican Party has changed the rules for eligibility requirements for caucusing three times since Jan. 9.

Moore expressed concern that "the confusion surrounding the caucus will both disenfranchise voters and make the election particularly susceptible to vote fraud."

The key of that press release to me is "chaos". I want to avoid that. If we are needed to get information out to Nevada caucus goers I am sure that the grassroots in Nevada will let us know. Otherwise, let's assume they have call centers ready tonight/tomorrow to GOTV.

Michigan, the epitome of a shitty HQ, had this much covered at least.

Making mass calls without hearing from the grassroots on the ground is unneeded and more than likely detrimental to the GOTV effort.

We can't stop the caucuses, that would be up to Dr. Paul and the campaign.

Nevada GOP State Party rule changes + Caucus location confusion create open straw poll conditions

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – Today, the Ron Paul 2008 campaign is calling on the Nevada State Republican Party to re-examine multiple inconsistencies in the Nevada Caucus process, and to consider postponing the caucus, which is scheduled for Saturday, January 19.

"The inconsistencies, errors and multiple changes in the rules reek of playing politics with the what should be a neutral process," said Ron Paul 2008 campaign manager Lew Moore. "The people of Nevada deserve to know exactly what the rules are and to know that those rules are being fairly enforced. This has not happened up to this point, and the caucus appears to be in chaos."

The problem of multiple rule changes is being compounded by other inconsistencies and errors in the process. Many Nevada Republicans have received postcards with incorrect information about their caucus location, and the Nevada GOP website had incorrect caucus locations listed as late as Wednesday, January 16.

Additionally, one or more county chairs have expressed concerns over an insufficient number of ballots, and the Ron Paul campaign has heard reports that rural counties are short of ballots, while Clark County precincts were given what is regarded as far too many ballots.

The Ron Paul campaign has learned that the Nevada Republican Party has changed the rules for eligibility requirements for caucusing three times since January 9. Last summer when the January 19 caucus was set, the Nevada GOP announced that caucus would be closed and only for Republicans who had registered by December 19.

On January 10, 2008, a caucus director for the Nevada Republican Party reversed the earlier policy and anounced a new standard by stating that any person who asserts that they are a registered Republican in the precinct but cannot be found in the voter rolls that the Republican party has, would be able to participate if they signed an affidavit attesting to the fact that they were a registered Republican. Then, on January 15 the Ron Paul campaign received communication from the state party that the affidavits would not be used.

However, on January 17 the policy was changed for a third time, as the state party announced that affidavits would be in use throughout the state, subject to the discretion of county central committees and chairs.

The Nevada Republican Party is changing the rules from week to week, and currently the rules will not even be uniform across the state, as eligibility rules may differ from county to county.

Given the caucus location confusion – with potential caucus participants not knowing where to go – and the new rule effectively allowing anyone to get a ballot, the Ron Paul campaign is concerned that the confusion surrounding the caucus will both disenfranchise voters and make the election particularly susceptible to vote fraud.

Guys. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS.

Its all about perception. ANYBODY can vote with an affadavit. People can be bussed in and sign an affadavit and vote. It does not matter if the TRUTH is known after, this will set precedence for SC AND FLORIDA. Think about it.

**************

People, this is really really big. This is GOP insider shennanigans. Do NOT be naive. The rules have changed on a weekly basis and then it changed to ALLOW these affadavits PRIOR to these shennanigans, its a set up.

I am on board - this is very serious. NV meetups - EVERYONE needs to go to the 'fake' locations and redirect AND OFFER van rides to the good locations to Ron Paul supporters.

You are ALL not getting the tactic. IT DOES NOT matter if the others are hurt. They do NOT Ron taking this. This will catapult him into the national limelight - they DO NOT AND CANNOT have that.

Rudy will bus people in, or whomever.

We need to do what we can.

*******************************

All of Call4Paul info is in the Meetup hands in NV.

George,

We've got the upset part down. Now, what about the "massive effort to get rp supporters the correct direction"? What is that direction and how do you plan to disseminate it?

Why ask George? WTF is George anyway? If we need to hear something, it should be coming from the campaign staff and posted on ronpaul2008.com, not from somebody that forgot to take their Ritalin. Jeez...I'm sick of these hysterical postings!

Hemminger Update JAn 15th 2008 [Admin- info is disputed]

Thanks mann - I don't love anything dearly - and I am listening...and what you are saying about decentralization might be the honest to god way to proceed....

So nothing is set in stone and we are def. not trying to hijack what you think...thanks mann

I've been looking through this thread and your previous posts to see whether or not I should listen to you and get my blood boiling over your Nevada warning or should I wait to hear from the official campaign to know my next course of action.

Judging by your calm, reflective manner, by the way you listen to all opinions fairly, even to those that oppose your rhetoric, by the way you place the needs of the grassroots movement above your own personal ego, by the way you unite us all for the common good instead of causing distraction and infighting, by the way your expound all the qualities that inherently make a great leader, I hereby nominate you to be in charge of the Executive Grassroots Advisory Committee. I'm sure your humility keeps you from wanted such a huge leadership role, but goshdarnit, who else on this forum is more qualified? You da man.

EVERYBODY FREAK OUT NOW! DON'T WAIT FOR MORE INFORMATION FROM CAMPAIGN HQ! ALERT! ALERT! LISTEN TO HEMMINGER BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. I DON'T KNOW IF WHAT WE DO WILL JUST CAUSE MORE CONFUSION AND DISTRACTION AND MAY MAKE MATTERS WORSE. WHO CARES! TRUST HEMMINGER! HE'S NEVER MADE US RUN AROUND BEFORE LIKE CHICKENS WITH THEIR HEADS CUT OFF, HAS HE?

I think that the affidavit situation places this far above anything the grass roots can do. I pray they made some attempt at getting an injunction or TRO or whatever is applicable in this situation. (I'm no lawyer.)

Yeah, I read the press release. So? Does it direct us to do anything? Or are we just supposed to run around like our hair is on fire, as the OP suggests. Sorry, I don't have enough hair left for crap like that. I just want specific direction from the campaign and not from some hysterical poser.

I can't believe how rudely you guys are treating ghemminger. Sure he's a tease sometimes but give me a break. Him and Lord Xar are two of the most connected/informed among us. THEY ARE ASSETS. Why the fuck do you crucify them whenever they take the time to tell us something important that is going on. It's no secret that we're getting cornholed in Nevada, and I am nowhere near stupid enough to think it's just because the Nevada GOP can't make up their mind.

Primaries are probably the most DIRTY NASTY NO RULES CROOKED SLIMEFESTS in all of politics. THEY ARE DOING THIS INTENTIONALLY, THEY ARE DOING IT TO FUCK US. PERIOD.

I don't understand why you guys will fly into a righteous fury over a random comment on the news, or people throwing snowballs, but can't SEE THE BLATANT GAMING AND RIGGING GOING ON IN NEVADA RIGHT NOW.

Jesus...

ghemminger, did the campaign say what we were supposed to do? I mean it's all well that we know about it but what is the best way that the average out-of-stater can help? I'm pissed because I was just waiting for this to happen and now it's here, and I'm halfway across the country.

FOLKS just FYI this is the "THEN THEY FIGHT YOU" part. Congratulations, we're movin' on up, but only if we can get these crooks to get the fuck out of the way.

WHAT CAN WE DO?

Well, I've read it now several times today. No plan? No word from the official campaign on what to do? Thanks for letting us know. Carry on.

I pray they made some attempt at getting an injunction or TRO or whatever is applicable in this situation. (I'm no lawyer.)

That might present even more problems than if the caucaus goes on. If the caucaus gets postponed, other candidates would probably rush in to campaign. We're screwed either way unless the injunction is only for an hour and firmly establishes the rules as they were supposed to be (affidavits not allowed).

Yes, its amazing they can't see it.

Its also amazing that they can't see that you have to have more then 800,000 to run a national ad campaign, or that this primary election is completely different than previous ones by having all the states the same day, or that it was done that way to give the media all the power in choosing the candidates.

Ron Paul can win, and we can have a great country, BUT THERE IS ONLY TWO WEEKS LEFT, WAKE THE UCK UP!!!!!!
