It is possible our time is being distorted by a neighboring black hole. What seems like years to us could be seconds in another part of the galaxy...

chew on that :)

Can you prove that statement?

The contradictions in the synoptic gospels are sufficient proof that the story of the life of the Jewish rabbi Yeshua has been fictionalized and paganized. Anyone who can't see that hasn't studied the gospels with an open mind.

Then there's the issue of the Gospel as taught by Yeshua and the gospel/death cult of the Roman church....

Five Gospel Parallels

Gospel parallels including John

Check out section 2 of the second page - greatest divergence is in "biographic" details.

What we have in the Bible was edited and selected in order to achieve a political objective - subjugation of the people and strengthening the Roman Empire. It has been used for basically the same purpose for almost two thousand years.

Overview of Christian literature.

"The canon is neither a total nor a random collection of early Christian texts. It is both deliberate and selective and it excludes just as surely as it includes. I would even say that you cannot understand what is included in the canon unless you understand what was excluded from it. When the [extracanonical] gospels are played over against the four canonical gospels, both the products and the processes of those latter texts appear in a radically different light." — John Dominic Crossan, Prof. Religious Studies, DePaul Univ.

I have not read it yet....but Jefferson's bible seems like it would be closer to what Jesus wanted Christianity to be. The church has added so much garbage into the bible...

It's easy to "read" Jefferson's Bible out of any current translation. He studied the teachings and skipped over the biographical stuff and the so-called miracles.

Ironically, I had been doing exactly the same thing for years before I learned about Jefferson's "Bible". It was a nice reinforcement of what I already Knew.

...just in case this was a serious suggestion...

A black hole wouldn't be able to distort our time like you suggest unless it was so massive and close that it would also be ripping Earth to shreds. The sky would also appear black and void of stars, due to the light being sucked into such a powerful and nearby black hole.

...and if we were somehow still alive, we'd definitely be able to detect it. ;)

This website contains SAYINGS GOSPELS. Under this it has the secret book of James. When you click on that text it brings this up:

The Apocryphon (Secret Book) of James is probably the earliest example of a long-standing Gnostic tradition that the risen Jesus delivered secret teachings to his disciples.

John 20
Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.

This confuses me, please explain.

You're gonna blame Eve because Adam was thinkin with the wrong head???

:p

Yeah, give Eve a break. I always felt like she did the right thing. A desire to know and understand the difference between good and evil is an admirable trait.

OK - you are quoting John 18:20.

The orthodox church (not Greek Orthodox, but those following the orthodox Roman Christology) found gnosticism very threatening. True gnosticism make religion irrelevant. John contains a lot of gnostic concepts, but it was also included in the N.T. as a rebuttal to Gnosticism as a competing Christology.

I don't find it surprising that Yeshua would have taught on one level to the public at large and another level to his intimate followers who he felt could grasp some more complex ideas.

The opponents of gnosticism often refer to secret knowledge or teachings, but hidden knowledge seems like a better description to me.

Rather than "Secret Teachings" I think of those teachings as "hidden teachings", hidden to those who focus on religion.

Both the Gnostic religion and the Roman tradition permitted people to write books that claimed to be divinely dispensed and would take the name of one of the apostles but not be actually authored by an apostle.

Here is a link to a translation of the "Secret Book of James"

It is only a small fragment and it doesn't say much. This quote alone leads me to believe it is not authentic -
7 The twelve disciples were all sitting together, recollecting what the Savior had said to each of them, secretly or openly, and organizing their recollections into books. I, for my part, was also writing my book.

There is no evidence that any of the apostles wrote diaries or accounts of their time with the Master. If they did, they were destroyed long ago.

The Synoptics seem to be based on one common early source.

Personally this apocryphal book does not resonate with me, the Gospel of Thomas does. In the end, it isn't about which books you believe, it's about how you live your life and treat your fellow man.
