Freedom living and property taxes

Payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT). Sign an agreement with the town to pay one lump sum for taxes due until 20XX, where 20XX is greater than the year you are dead.

BTW, even many unincorporated places in NH have county taxes....and they are not cheap ($20+/1000).

Yes, taxation = theft but there is not much I can do about it right now.

We've green acre'ed here in TN which dropped the rate from $2500 to $1700. Must have 15+ acres.
The voters passed a Constitutional Amendment to do something similar in NH to protect the farmers and whatnot. It's called Current Use. You have to have 10+ and it drops the rate to almost nothing on the land you put in it. Over half of all land in NH is in Current Use. That means property taxes tend to be well above average on the land in another status.

It depends on the location. Some even have school taxes too because children live in them. That's why the amount of communities without any property taxes has shrunk in recent years. Another issue is the timber tax offsets property taxes. So if a timber company decides to reduce production, the people living in the community (and the timber company owners) might have to pay property taxes that year. Here is he rate for everywhere in NH. Though, a town might change only 90% of it and that amount varies by town. Figure in the possible disabled, elderly and veterans credits that towns are allowed to off, the % of the rate the town charges, any possible taxing village a property may be located in, and the value of the property, and that is half the bill sent to the homeowner. http://www.revenue.nh.gov/mun-prop/municipal/documents/2014-local.pdf

The best way to avoid property taxes is to live with someone else and pay no or very little rent. Maybe you help with gun range maintenance, the green house or snow removal. Anyone with a lot ofacres could use help picking their fruit trees, raking their leaves, moving their grass and so on.
