New York Magazine's Gabriel Sherman reported that the cable channel's election experts have already decided on which polls would determine the field:

According to a source with direct knowledge of the plans, Fox's team of election analysts is currently crunching numbers to set the field. "It’s going to be the most recent polls by non-public entities,” the network source explained. “They need to be done with live interviewers, as opposed to internet responses like what Rasmussen does.” According to the source, candidates will be chosen from the following polls: Monmouth University (released today), NBC News/Wall Street Journal (August 2), Quinnpiac University (July 30), Bloomberg, CBS/New York Times, and Fox News (all releasing tomorrow). If a poll from ABC News or another organization fitting Fox's criteria is released overnight, then it will be swapped in.

According to the polls in that list that have already been released, it's looking like the primetime debaters will be real estate mogul Donald Trump, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Dr. Ben Carson, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

Well. Looks like they couldn't find a combination of polls that would exclude the Son Who Must Not Be Named.

Wonder who got fired over it.

This strongly favors Kasich who just came in at the last minute and was previously out of the Top 10.

They should've stated their methodology first (like CNN0 and then choose but that would not help them fuck the results.

Fox needs to prop Kasich . . . wonder why ?

.

I was hoping that Rand would get to stand next to Christie in the debate, but now that Christie has pulled ahead of Kasich, it looks like Rand will be standing next to Kasich.

is that fox news screen in # of polling populairty? How the f*** is Rand #8 now after being in the top 3? I call fucking bullshit. Especially when someone like Carson is above him. WHO THE FUCK IS CARSON? Bush #2? Please, after the last Bush there's no way in hell he is that popular. Polls = lies.

Rand has run a horrible campaign

Did you watch the forum last night? Carson was my second least favorite behind Graham. I don't know how that guy has any supporters.

Rand has run a horrible campaign

I think a big difference between Ron and Rand is the outward show of passion. Ron would get fired up when he was talking issues, and it created a sense of excitement. Rand's actions and votes show an equal amount of belief in what he is doing, but his demeanor is so staid, measured and calm, he doesn't really light fires the same way.

ETA: I am not at all trying to detract from Rand. He has my support - I just wish he had a bit more of his dad's heat.

Rand hasn't been in the top 3 nationally at all this year. Iowa and NH, he has been in the top 1 or 2, but nationally, he has polled consistently 4th until ManiaTrumpMania, which has drawn support from 5 or 6 other candidates including Rand. Keep in mind that up until this week, poll numbers have largely been reflective of name recognition. There are still around 30% primary voters who haven't ever heard of Rand while only 1-2% haven't heard of Trump, 10% haven't heard of Bush.

He hasn't really gotten started yet. Since April, they have mostly been staking out issues and in the Senate Rand has been getting opponents on the record for positions he can attack later. Additionally, the campaign has been expanding beyond Iowa and NH, reserving ad time, while many of the other campaigns have no solid plan after NH..

That's the photo Fox News is airing on TV and tweeting. If you look at the Real Clear Politics average of polls, this line-up matches closely.

considering where his numbers were at one time, I would agree. You don't go from the top to the lower pack without some major miscalculations.

And then Ron Paul's heat slowly flickered out as we got closer to the convention to the point that he had to have a separate convention, so a lot of good all that hype did...
