Fox Breaking News: Trancredo Drops Out Thursday

he's supposedly going to run against Senator Ken Salazar in my district. Do you think a thousand emails from denver Ron Paul voters might change his mind?

Tancredo is racist, despite his protestations to the contrary. He applies his imaginary one-size-fits-all "war of civilizations" theory of history to every situation from Islamic terrorism to Latin American immigration. He challenges John McCain for the lead in historical ignorance. He lacks the qualifications to teach the subject even in junior high school.

Tancredo's endorsement would be no more appealing than Dennis Hof's or Don Black's.

All we can do is hope.

But RP would be one of the more logical endorsements he could make.

Regardless, his supporters will need somewhere to turn...and no one else is strong on immigration.

the Minutemen choose tom, duncan or RP. so most of them will hopefuly go RP.

I won't encourage Tancredos vote, even if he isn't a racist, he sure has a bad reputation.

I don't care for Tancredo's tone at all...one of the messages featured on the front page of his site was "It's Your Culture - Fight for It!"

Tancredo's support was underestimated in polls because a lot of people were afraid to admit endorsing him (a little like RP actually)-- RP is in ageement with Tancredo on the border fence (though without Tancredo's divisive rhetoric)-- Bottom Line- If you were supporting Tancredo, you were very alienated from the GOP establishment-- and therefore an excellent candidate to move to the Ron Paul camp.

for the record they are not on the same page on a border fence, RP denounced a border fence in the stossel interview saying he voted on the bill for other provisions, the fence was part of it, but he thinks a fence is waste.

We do not need him to endorse us. He has not garnered enugh support to do us any good and probably some of his folks will come our way but not all.. (imo)

Half of his supporters in Iowa where he's at 6% would make a big difference for Paul.

Picking up the Hunter and Tancredo votes as they leave will be key for Ron Paul. Aside from Iraq, these people agree with us a lot more than the 'media darlings'.

This shows how hollow his candidacy is. Even Chris Dodd and Hunter are at least hanging aorund for 3 more weeks to see what the Iowans do.

It's pretty obvious what is going to happen, so leaving early isn't that big of a deal. Maybe Tancredo is rethinking giving up his seat in congress? Or perhaps he wants to combine his supporters with another candidates (ie, Hunter, Paul)

Maybe Tancredo wants to position himself for a cabinet position, by getting out without having attacked anybody.

Have you watched the debates? He attacks just about everyone on immigration.

He applies his imaginary one-size-fits-all "war of civilizations" theory

The 'Clash of Civilizations' is not Tancredo's theory, although he certainly believes in it. I suggest you go google it, or at least read the summary on wikipedia. Even if you disagree with it, it's an interesting paper to read.

You might not, some of us might. That is irrelevant. The question isn't what you have in common with Tancredo, it's what beliefs Tancredo supporters have in common with Ron Paul, and how to win them over.

Spoken like a true multiculturalist Democrat.

Needless to say, you haven't read In Mortal Danger by Tancredo, or any books by Pat Buchanan, Russel Kirk, or Sam Francis. I'm guessing you also label him a "neocon".

Well Tancredo's supporters are perhaps the most likely to fall behind Paul since they've been supporting such a low-ranking canidate for so long. Hopefully they'll realize Paul's immigration policies are the best and fall in line as such.

I'd really like to see the Minutemen endorse Paul since its a significantly large group. As stated most will support either Paul or Hunter. It'd be at least a couple percentage points of support.

Frankly, I wouldn't be discouraged if he endorsed Guiliani or McCain. Anything to keep Huckabee from winning Iowa...

Let me get this straight... Tancredo asks Ron Paul to respond to an article written by somebody "writing on behalf of Ron Paul" that calls Minutemen racist, and then drops out from the race?

I think he may be trying to throw his support to Ron Paul without doing it publicly. He's giving Ron Paul a national stage to talk about his position on immigration. There will be a lot of media attention on Tancredo dropping out in the next week, and if Ron Paul responds to Tancredo, it won't go unnoticed, especially by Tancredo supporters.

Tancredo was a single issue candidate with immigration, and I give him a lot of credit for making it a big issue in the debates. I don't think it would have been talked about nearly as much if it wasn't for Tancredo. I think the next logical choice for his supporters to move to would be Ron Paul.

There was a question earlier about a Buchanan endorsement earlier in this thread. Buchanan has said that he will not endorse anybody. That's the way it should be for people in the media. Just look at the Des Moines Register... the biggest media power in the earliest state, and they endorse Clinton and McCain. That just doesn't seem right to me, how is that fair and balanced news? It isn't news, it's just opinions and propaganda. They obviously lean Democrat, and want the Clinton machine back in power, so an endorsement of McCain is almost a negative.

Jim Gilcrest will endorse Huckabee (heard him on Al Rantell). I assume that Tancredo will do the same.

He mentioned Paul as another good immigration candidate, but said something about Huckabee ranking 3% higher, and also follows the polls, saying he wants to support a winner.

Any ron paul supporter that calls the MinuteMen racists is not really an RP supporter. They are some lefty freak looking for a soapbox to yell their vile crap to.

Some of us are just libertarians. You know the people RP panders to when he wants our money and votes ( depending on how you look at it). Maybe pander is the wrong word. But RP certainly knows how to campaign to appeal to freedom loving libertarians and then shift a little to the "hard right" people who seem influenced by hate/fear/bigotry,etc. This is why you will find pretty heavy support in both LP and CP types in addition to "old conservatives."

Dr. Paul differentiates himself STRONGLY from the xenophobes, at least in rhetoric. He has spoken out against Scapegoating immigrants ( as well as gays and other group the wackjobs hate) and tends to frame it more as a welfare and sovereignty ( libertarian supporting the existence of a state with borders rather than anarchist). I hope that is how he really feels.

Frankly, I think if he pushes too hard in the extreme anti-immigrant direction he risks alienating a lot of his supporters ( many who have supported him 20-30 years) who will question his true beliefs and consistency when it comes to free markets, libertarianism, etc.

He also risks losing a lot of the recent anti-war converts who make up a huge %.

Otherwise, he might as well be a CP candidate.

You assumed wrong. In the last Iowa debate Tancredo asked Huckabee how the American people could trust him on immigration. At this point I'd say Tancredo opposes Huckabee as much as he does McCain and Giuliani. Gilchrist has completely lost any integrity he had, which is a shame. Tancredo isn't that stupid.
