Former Sen. Tom Coburn: Rand Paul “scares me to death”

Coburn said Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul “scares me to death” on foreign policy. He added Paul didn’t “speak truthfully” about the NSA and he “would not vote for him for president.”

Disappointing. Coburn used to be very influential among conservative activist-types. Does anyone know if he carries much weight these days?

I have to admit, it's irritating to me that Republicans are coming out of the woodwork to undermine Rand. Not supporting him in a General election, even? This is absurd.

He also said Cruz is not ready, so conservatives won't be open to hearing him. His favorite was the lying joke Marco Rubio.

Rand Paul wants to restore the 2nd US Constitution.
so, they SHOULD be scared to death.

can you imagine what would happen if we rolled it back to the original 10 amendments?:cool:

I lost all respect for Coburn after he voted for TARP. He also came to be a supporter of gun control later in his career. He retired from the Senate which was a good thing for him, because he was going to face a primary challenger if he didn't retire.

I will be disappointed if this catches on at some point (half of the GOP and half of the pundits going full on negative on Rand)

Meh. You could never count on Coburn. The only reason we ever liked him in the first place is because when he did surprise us, he pleasantly surprised us.

He is retired and ailing. A few pronouncements are about all he does any more.

When did Coburn become such a drama queen?

He's always been the "pissed off at everybody" type. At least as far back as I can remember. He hates government spending and he hates conservatives who try to fix government spending, he hates waste in the military and he hates libertarians who oppose military waste. He just hates everything.

What a silly fool. Coburn made a name for himself for being anti-deficit spending and anti-waste, putting out his "Wastebook" of Washington spending. So what does he do? Tries to sabotage the one guy who might actually do something about the problem.
