And they wear blue uniforms, carry guns and have a badge:
http://cbs5.com/video/[email protected]
Give these cops brown shirts and jackboots, and you have 1930's Nazi Germany right here, today, in the USA.
Think there's a difference? Nope, none. Those men in the video were not resisting, and the one who was shot appears to have been cuffed. The cop's gun should have never been out of the holster, his finger never on the trigger, and especially never aimed where his partner could enter the line of fire. Where were these dopes trained? Were they trained?
Note: I'm not making a statement against all cops here. But any reasonable person can watch that video and see that no need for fire arms or deadly force was evident. All of my military law enforcement training tells me the police officers went too far, and escelated their level of force too far.
Rules of Force:
Use the minimum amount of force required to stop the action.
From the video, it looks to me that they never even needed to get to level III.
Use of Deadly Forcse Rules:
- Self defense or the defense of others.
- Assets involving national security.
- Assets not involving national security, but inherently dangerous to others.
- Protection of public health or safety.
- Serious offenses against persons.
- Arrest or apprehension.
- Escape.
The Supreme Court has ruled that, depending on the circumstances, if an offender resists arrest, police officers may use as much force as is reasonably required to overcome the resistance. Whether the force is reasonable is determined by the judgment of a reasonable officer at the scene, rather than by hindsight. [from wikianswers]
Do you, a reasonable person, believe the police officer who shot the man used a "reasonable amount of force" against an already subdued person?
Word is, the officer who shot the an has resigned. The district attorney will decide if charges will be pressed. What? IF charges will be pressed? Guess the DA hasn't seen the video.
How about some basic safety:
Weapons Safety:
1. "All guns are always loaded".
2. Never point the weapon at anything you are not willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until on target and ready to shoot.
4. Always be sure of your target and the background.
Guess the cop forgot about these basics....
