Forget another Blimp......we need grassroots commercials on TV!!!

Agreed. Pawlenty's ad buy by itself has made the news -- Ron Paul's would as well.

As for direct mail, it may generate more leads for campaign volunteers, but for most people, "direct" describes the route it takes to the trash. Repeated TV ads can move the needle in the primaries, and, if done correctly, help overcome the "fringe candidate" label the media has unfairly given him.

Not to mention that kind of exposure will surely increase his war chest.

Don't you all think that any ads that we might run as a grassroots project should be focused on getting new voters and independents etc... to register and vote for Ron Paul in the primaries? This is what makes the most sense to me. However, on the other hand we could just raise enough money to do it all.....

It would be great if we had 4 or 5 short 15 to 30 second ads to choose from. 1 targeting the Iowa Market, 1 targeting the NH market, 1 targeting the independent and new voters, and 1 or 2 targeting already registered Republicans.

If we had a small pool of these ads I know I would personally get on Google TV ads (already have an account created) and run some. I wouldn't at all be against spending $1,500 of my cash to make it happen.

Good ideas. I don't know what google TV ads is about. What is it?

Okay it looks like we can count on the producers of 'For Liberty' to lend a helping hand with commercials!!! As soon as I am able to make phone calls without interuption, I'll start checking into Iowa pricing. Could use some help with this.

Very good idea... was it not done with this one in 2008?

Anyway, I always thought this is the best way to go for the grassroots.

It allows us to make our little ads & air it on many networks; it looks quite promising for us to put up ads about Ron without a great deal of effort & looks like the price is pretty affordable as well & we can even reach millions of people in one shot.

CoooooLLLLL!!! Okay, I'm all for doing it this way unless someone comes up with a reasonable objection. We can take the stations in iowa from this list:

Next, we need to decide what to put in the ads and I think we need 3 or 4 running as often as possible. What topics should we cover in the ads? What will it cost?

Thoughts:

1. Find out who is leading in the polls and do an Ad comparing his record with Ron's.

2. Do an Ad that shows Ron in session predicting the economic crisis, as well as other predictions.

3. An Ad on the economy only and his record on not voting to increase taxes, his book on End the Fed, his refusal to take any pension, etc.

My PAC ran a lot of TV ads last campaign. What you will likely find is the broadcast stations (over the airwaves, ie ABC, NBC, CBS) will be the highest in cost, especially during the prime time shows. Also, they are sometimes really strict on what is said in the ads, and may request paperwork to validate the claims. They are also very picky about the disclaimer at the end and it has to in a certain point size (21 I believe) or they will reject the ad.

Cable stations (CNN, FOX, Discovery, History, etc) will be the cheapest, and are more lenient on some of what I mentioned above. I have all my records still from when I did all the research for PA, ID & SD. I could give you an idea what our spots cost, but it was a few years ago so they may be more now.

Another thing is what is called "inventory", which are the available slots to run ads. Per FEC regs, official candidates have first dibs on the slots. So if they buy them all up, anyone else (like a PAC) gets the crap slots or may be locked out altogether. Even if you get in first, they can bump you if the candidates want the slots instead. It's kinda crazy.

Since we need to target likely Republican primary voters, we'd probably get the most bang for the buck with Fox News.

What if we make 15 and 30 second spots out of Chris and Corey's documentary and then do the Google TV thing? I'd like to see an ad that starts with Ron's speech from the last Iowa caucus, and then splice in the crowd yelling : Paul speaks truth!

Remember to have a link at the end of the ad for

http://iowaforronpaul.com/

Since neither the ronpaul2012 and iowaforronpaul websites have an issues section, I personally believe the latter would be better for Iowa voters. I think what would be even more beneficial than reaching out to non-Paul supporters through these ads is if these ads could help Paul supporters log onto the Iowa website and sign up for the straw poll. This would probably be an easier way to reach out to our supporters to help the campaign than phone banking.

Remember, our first goal is to win the straw poll. Winning the straw poll will probably win us more supporters than an ad campaign.

Steve has said multiple times that TV ads provide a much lower rate of return as opposed to direct mail.
I don't know who Steve is... but he's 100% wrong.

The campaign hasn't addressed this... unless it's being held as a last ditch, 11th hour secret wonder-weapon effort?

The 100,000's Ron Paul supporters and no expert campaign hires, volunteers/professionals/consultants, in branding/marketing/sales? Deborah, you are on the right track, just can't believe the staffers/campaign are this wrong and far behind with 47 days to go until the Ames Straw poll.

I hope their right, but seeing that the campaign staff can't even get a suit to fit RP correctly, or at least adjust it prior to TV appearances, indicates the campaign professionals are overlooking even the most obvious.

"Steve" is Steve Bierfeldt, the guy who is running Rons campaign in Iowa....

With google ads, can you show them only in a specific state? IE, will this let us target Iowa specifically?

I think the best plan would make 3-4 different ads. Make them part of a series, with each ad focusing on an issue Ron is strong on (economy, foreign policy, abortion, civil liberties). They could be really simple, I think trying to do too much messes up a lot of political ads. What can I do to help get the ball rolling on this.

Given the proponderance of propaganda, in terms of discluding Ron's name whenever possible, or belittling him, I'd say without TV time, we lose easily. We have to combat them at their game, and beat them. Our message is true, it's the overwhelming amount of propagandists saying "he cannot win, ever" that make the idiot masses believe he cannot win. Most folks I talk too say "I'd vote for him, but he can't win"...all they do is listen to whatever the TV tells them...drones, hopeless, and helpless.

TV time soon, and a lot of it, or we lose it all easily.

Direct mail is great because it's cheap, but most voters aren't voting just based on cold hard facts. Voters need an emotional connection to the candidate they choose. That's where the television comes in.
