Following Jesus Means Opposing Torture

One can believe in freewill salvation and still believe in a permissive will of God. The story of Saul and Samuel is a perfect example. Israel sinned in asking for a king. God allowed them to have one and then made them live with their decision.

Fair enough. This is a valid point.

I don't think it would ever work, even for a second.

And your simply asserting so with no evidence should mean what to me exactly?

The despicable Paul McGuire, who says: “It is the responsibility of organizations like the CIA to essentially do whatever it takes to save the lives of the American people, and they should not be blocked from doing their job.” And this: “The CIA and other intelligence agencies were justified in what they did.” The cautions he gives are meaningless after statements like these. See my articles on torture here. Another one coming up soon.

And you think our current system is working? Think again.

People who should go free are locked up. People who should be locked up go free. People are disproportionately affected because of their race and/or economic status. Whole industries have grown up around it. Prison beds are built in advance based on the number of kids who can't read in the third grade....as opposed to taking that same money and hiring tutors to make sure those kids actually can read. Seriously....you think the current system is working?

No. Of course the only two options aren't big government like we have now, or no government. I believe limited government would work the best and makes the most sense.

It worked pretty well for the first 150 years of our country or so.

yeaaah

"Pretty well" doesn't mean perfectly.

The system has not worked "Pretty Well" for a very long time.
It did work better prior to the invention of Police/Paddy Rollers.

It worked quite well with NO Police at all.. The people enforced the laws. Criminals were convicted in courts of law.
The very worse crime is in the cities,, where the very first police were created,, and has grown worse under the police system.

Just like Prohibition,, and the War on Drugs it is a failure. The very concept of "Contraband" is contrary to a free society.
But they have grown the Police State at a phenomenal rate.

Police should not exist in a free society. They belong in an authoritarian society,, and are integral to it.

When was the police created?

The "concept" of police? Enforcers of Control have been around as long as Government.

In this country they did not exist till the mid 1800s.. long after the Founders were dead.
The "idea" was imported from Europe,, along with a lot of other socialist ideas.

Robert Peel is considered the Father of Policing.. and he was from England. (a socialist authoritarian aristocracy)

I don't recall hearing about police abuses in the mid 1800's, or even 30 or 40 years ago for that matter. It seems to me that the problem isn't the existence of the police, but the fact that they haven't been put on a short leash and reigned in. The militarization of the police needs to come to an end as well as the war on drugs. If that happened the police would act more as peace keepers than the militaristic army that they've become.
