I'm excited for the FEC report to come out. The news will be huge. I can only speculate as to how much money Ron Paul will have come October. But compared to the other candidates, I think he'll be second only to Giuliani. Here's my logic:
Tommy Thompson is out of the race, and I believe Duncan Hunter is next. Brownback, Tancredo, and Huckabee may or may not make it to the primaries, but they have each spent the majority their funds already, whereas Ron Paul has only spent 21% of his. Meanwhile, Ron Paul's fundraising has been great this quarter.
So this leaves McCain, Romney, and Giuliani. McCain's campaign is in shambles. I'm expecting McCain will raise slightly more this quarter than Paul, but also spend a lot more than Paul. Romney has accumulated over $9 million in debt, continues to spend massive amounts of money, and so far there aren't any signs of his campaign growing. Again, I expect Romney to outraise Paul, but also outspend. McCain and Romney will have less cash on hand than Paul come October.
Giuliani's campaign has shown some fiscal responsibility (who knew?). They had no outstanding debt at the end of Q2, and was one of few republican candidates to spend much less than he raised. Giuliani's powerhouse donors should give him an insurmountable lead into the primaries.
Then there's Fred Thompson. He's a Hollywood actor and CFR member. I'm expecting Fred to declare his candidacy in November, but he already has a PAC raising funds for him (not much money- yet). I can also see how people who have maxed out their contributions for the other frontrunners will likely contribute to Fred.
Anyhow, I believe when the October report comes out, it'll look something like this:
Giuliani
Paul
Romney
McCain
Huckabee/Brownback
Tancredo/Hunter
The media will have no choice but to respect Ron Paul as a frontrunner. They'll also have to report on the grassroot support Ron Paul is getting compared to other candidates. The time and money dedicated to the Ron Paul campaign that isn't in the FEC report is worth FAR more than what is calculated in it.
There are going to be a couple nationally televised debates here in Florida, Oct. 20th and Nov. 28th. I see these dates as Ron Paul's time to shine in the national spotlight. I'm pretty fuckin stoked.
Go Ron Paul!
