FBI investigates mysterious large drones circling over New Jersey

Looks like ZH has it figured. Some kind of FAA drone surveillance legislation is expiring next week and is up for reauthorization and amendment before this session of Congress ends. I haven't looked at it but I'm sure there will be new carve outs for Amazon and similar drone services, along with greater authority to use drones for population surveillance, while restricting private drone use further.

[...] if nothing else, the opportunities to exploit fear-mongering are just too great to pass up.

It would also explain why the Feds are pretending nonchalant ignorance over whatever is going on (and all the speculative agitation over Iran, China, etc. is just gravy).

NJ Drone 'Invasion' Just In Time For Congress To Reauthorize Orwellian Law
by Tyler Durden - Saturday, Dec 14, 2024

A series of drone sightings over New Jersey that began in mid-November has left residents and lawmakers spooked about the possibility of foreign adversaries breaching US airspace with drone swarms. While officials have attempted to reassure the public, some lawmakers have stoked fear, leading to widespread panic on social media, with people interpreting anything moving in the night sky as a potential drone (even commercial jets and stars).

Days ago, the FBI and the US Homeland Security Department released a statement indicating, "We have no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus."

"Historically, we have experienced cases of mistaken identity, where reported drones are, in fact, manned aircraft," the federal agencies said.

White House national security communications adviser John Kirby said many of the purported drone sightings are commercial jets with no evidence of a national security or public safety threat.

Let's take a step back and review some of Elon Musk's tweets on X:

Sept. 30: "Drone swarm battles are coming that will boggle the mind"

Sept. 29: "Epic drone wars coming"

Jan. 5, 2023: "The Drone Wars are already a big deal, but we ain't seen nothing yet …"

What did Elon know ahead of time?

No actual drones have been recovered, and footage on X frequently features amateur videos mistaking drones for commercial aircraft. Furthermore, as far as we know, the FAA has not closed large sections of airspace or diverted planes. While we are not dismissing the possibility of foreign adversary-operated drones breaching heavily restricted airspace, we are pointing out the extraordinary hype on social media (with no substance), which has caused widespread panic with some users on X calling this a "psyop."
...
X user mcm_ct_usa makes the point the purported drone sightings could be a "psyop against you to manipulate Congress into passing the new H.R.8610 (Counter-UAS Authority Security, Safety, and Reauthorization Act of 2024) which will include appropriations and enhanced government powers to control you, and they're even going so far as to use it to push for acts of war against other countries."

It's coincidental that last week, a Homeland Security joint subcommittee held a hearing on H.R.8610, the Counter-UAS Authority Security, Safety, and Reauthorization Act. This bill would renew and reform counter-UAS legal authorities and strengthen the FAA's oversight powers of drones.

"The reason we need legal authority is that without it, use of the most effective types of drone detection and counter-drone technologies could violate criminal laws, including those that prohibit destroying or disabling aircraft in flight and intercepting signals and communications," said Brad Wiegmann, the DOJ's deputy assistant attorney general for national security.

With current drone-countering authorities set to expire on Dec. 20, the sudden surge in purported drone sightings and the accompanying MSM and social media panic might make a bit more sense—as an effort to push for the reauthorization of Orwellian drone laws.

I don't think these are the Ptero Dynamics drones (and they make several models) using that detector for radiation signals. While it's pretty plausible and a good theory, here's why I don't buy it: The governor of NJ (Mr Lockdown) said, "when we get eyes on them, they go dark". Not exactly sure what he meant but I'm guessing when they've sent up a helicopter, the drones either turned off their lights or disappeared. Helicopters have spotlights that are very bright, LAPD calls them the night sun and most here know what I'm talking about. They brightly illuminate large areas at night. If the drones just turned their lights off, they could still be seen with the night sun. Plus, it's not like things are invisible at night, just harder to make out. Further, some NJ police dept said their own helicopters couldn't pick up any signal (electronic frequency) from the drones and they should all have one. They also said the drones just disappeared when followed. Some other agency (maybe military) said they got no heat signature from them. That radiation detector must put off heat because it requires a canister of liquid nitrogen to keep it cool. The Ptero Dynamics drones sound like drones, i.e., make a buzzing sound like a hive of bees. These things in NJ mimic the sound of jet engines. I'm still leaning toward shapshifting UFOs that mimic whatever they want, both as objects and with whatever sounds they choose to make. Some have said the drones are flying in grid patterns. Uh, no they're not. ATC radar can't pick up the drones because they're too low. The stuff shown on Flightradar is from planes that are probably attempting to detect WTF is going on and have been unsuccessful.

Yeah, I've wondered why there are not better optics on the drones, even someone with a high quality camera with a real zoom lens. That in itself is not strange, considering that almost everyone uses their (likely low quality at a distance) cell phone for taking pics and video.

The advanced drones can move quickly and at high speed, so getting away from a police helicopter should be no problem.

As far as statements by Governors, I take that with a huge grain of salt. Like Hochul pushing the new drone spending and regulation bill, they are probably all in on the con/psyop.

Come on, choppers chase cars. They can't fly as fast as a drone? All this time and so many "drones" and nothing can follow one?

That legislation, which did not read, said it was a re-authorization, indicating a continuation of an existing law. As it stands now, you can't fly a drone about 400' and near an airport.

Meanwhile, isn't this object awfully close to the commercial airliner?

If you guys didn't watch the video in that Facebook link I posted (#45, I think) do watch it because it's crazy weird. Since when do drones or planes pop out of balls of light?

BTW, something paranormal, like a UFO flap or invasion could be happening and government would still try to take advantage of it. Also, even if it were recognized as such, there would be plenty of people who would demand martial law, military responses and increases in budgets and the like. Then there are the ones whose default setting that everything must be terrorism of the Iranian kind.

Cars have to use roads. Choppers are as the crow flies, and they do go faster than cars in general. They also have the high-ground, birds-eye perspective. Cars can't go very fast unless they have a clear, straight, and open road.

That has nothing to do with relative speed against the most advanced drones in the world. Smaller is more maneuverable, and drones do not have pilots. G-forces are not an issue for a drone, thus they can maneuver faster. Pilots are obsolete.

"Come on", you think a re-authorization means there are no changes?

Perspective and zoom. It's still far enough away. It's amazing how close they allow commercial aircraft to come to each other (on purpose or by accident).

Any time you hear calls for emergency legislation, you might want to question the underlying justification.

Trum's still going after C Christie because he recently appointed his criminal Son in Law's Father (kushner) as nominee for Ambassador to France

This is after Trum pardoned him in 2016

Christie, of course prosecuted Senior Kushner for tax evasion & family black mail

Pathetic tweet from Trum, gobbled up by mindless Americans

Trump as president elect gets intelligence briefings. He already knows what the drones are.

The shoot them down remarks and Christie pictures are FUD.
