Farage, Exit.

He says he reached his life goal. A lot of people are highly critical of this decision and say he's fleeing before the negotiations. Now I disagree with that because he won't be allowed at the negotiating table so it's rather useless. Apart from that, the party now becomes more of a national party while it started in European politics. So a new leader can be appropriate.

Anways, Farage is awesome, now that he's going to retire, I should send him an email and see if he wants to go catch some fish at sea.. He should have more time for that and I know it's one of his favorite things to do. :p

You're right, Farage is awesome! I always thought he was the Ron Paul of the UK.

Resignation speech.

Q&A

Funny though, a leader that steps down because he reached his goal! How rare is that ?

I honestly believe this is a tactical exit... he is too well liked
and
given the current 'vaccuum' and heightened NEED for a guide path through Brexit..
NOTHING
amplifies populism like a premature 'disappearance'.
His popularity will go through the roof.
**his last 'resignation' lasted 3 days (wink, wink)
(cue up to 6:12 in the second vid.... :) )

All party leaders in the UK stepping down. Nobody wants to stick around to see how BREXIT comes out? To take responsibility for what comes next? Help shape the future?

Help shape the future by staying in the EU and be a what a debt slave and making sure your country has no future?

You can't pin that on Farage. He's been fighting for the BREXIT referendum for over 20 years. His thing was to get the UK out. I'm sure he'd gladly take part in any negotiations but he rightly recognizes that he won't be welcome at those negotiations.

He has taken responsibility, he's done what he said he wanted to do. Now he steps down so the party can focus on national policies, with a different leader. Farage is an inspirational figure. I don't think he'd be a good executive nor do I think he'd want to be. He is good at making people think, for good or for bad, he makes people think.

I think it's quite exceptional that he stepped down. I did not expect him to do so. It is however a reflection that UKIP is a party of the people and not a party of Nigel Farage.

The reason other party leaders are stepping down is totally different. Cameron stepped down because he lost the referendum and his remaining credibility, the labor party is in shits because they are like Belgium, two different groups within the same party that don't like each other and have vastly different viewpoints... Other parties, idk, they are pretty much irrelevant as of now..

The vote does not achieve the goal- it is actually just the first step. The vote does not even necessarily mean they will leave the EU- it was "advisory" and not binding. Cameron says he won't declare the UK leaving the EU so it will be up to whomever replaces him as Prime Minister to decide to do that or not. And that person could decide not to do it as well. Or to delay it longer. Even then all the details must be worked out over the following two years before the actual exit takes place. No- he has not "completed his job" if that is what he wants to accomplish.

Sure

I'm sure they can theoretically piss in voters' faces. In reality however, they can not. Legally it might not be binding but morally it is. A government that would ignore the result would run a very substantial risk of losing all credibility as well as risking civil unrest.

Cameron says he won't declare the UK leaving the EU so it will be up to whomever replaces him as Prime Minister to decide to do that or not.
Cameron is weak-sauce, he knows it, the people know it. He isn't popular anymore.

The next PM certainly has a heavy burden to carry. It is however bullshit that it has to take two years to exit. It could be faster. It could take longer should all other member states agree. There are reasons why the EU wants to finish this as quickly as possible, which means the UK has a very good negotiating position.

No- he has not "completed his job".
He most certainly HAS completed his job. He is not an MP. He has done everything within his power and much more. He changed the debate, he changed public opinion. He did what he said he would do. He's still an MEP and will continue to do his job until the UK has actually left.

I think there is panic (besides anger) in the EU commission... they are practically BEGGING behind the scenes for the UK not to follow thru.

They are trying to prevent a run on the banks... starting with Renzi/Italy.... the Italian PM wants to bailout the collapsing banks by printing EUROS/debasing
and they won't do it and are demanding a Greek style plunder pledging public assets to the creditors... Renzi says "NO!" Meanwhile they BOTH fear a 'run on the banks'
in Italy. Italian banks could create the first domino AND it comes on the heels of the looming Brexit loss of $50M Euro/day in 'fees' as well as the loss in sales of goods and services to the UK.

A 2 day old banking analysis is here:

Farage needs to do this. He's only won the local MEP seat. He lost the other race he ran for.

He needs to keep making comebacks like a Pro wrestler.

Shame on him. He should stay in and keep doing stuff for me. He thinks he can do this for 20 years and then just stop? We depend on him. I hope he's happy with himself, because I am not. I deserve to have more because I'm sitting here typing about it.

I am surprised no one mentioned the little meeting Nigel had with Rupert Murdoch and Liam Fox over the weekend. Something happened that's for sure.

Farage is apparently pro NATO. Did not know that. :(
