Explaining Santorum

Why do you guys continually elect people based upon war-mongering, abortion, gays, Christian values, Marital status etc... Our political system in Australia is far from perfect, but we have an un-married woman Prime Minister as our leader. We don't care. Our Environmental Minister is openly gay. We don't care. Why not elect people on their merits, rather than all the superficial bulls#%it?

Why are Americans so politically immature and so easily led?

I don't think this is really an "American" problem. It is a Big Government and Socialism problem. If it is Government's role to engage in social engineering, then people are going to want to elect folks who engineer society in fitting with their own cultural values. Europe and Australia are no different in this regard, the only difference is prevailing social norms and culture. It isn't that you don't care about superficial bull, it's just that you have a different set of superficial bull you care about. Until people reject socialism and embrace individual liberty, they will (quite rightly) continue to obsess about electing members of their own tribe to represent them.

It's a mind-set. Western Democracies outside of America don't care about this. I am not interested in getting into a debate about Church/State, but it is practically non-existent. All I am saying, is that the heirarchy has succesfully exploited most Americans.

I appreciate that 75% of Iowans are Evangelical Christians, and I want Ron Paul elected also.

But... Where did this "pitting one side against the other" begin? Bush? Rove? I am not enough of an expert.

All I can say, is it mis-directs the voters and corrupts the system.

Some in Europe do. The balkans fought bitter wars over politics religion and race in recent history.

Race and religion have been a big part of US elections for at least the last 100 years. Doesn't make it right though.

Satorum just peaked at the right time. Theres a TON of stuff in his past: pay raises, spending increases, Specter, Whitman, Deptmt of Ed, most corrupt etc.

He'll get vetted and drop like the rest.

Don't think Santorum plays too well in New England, when they discover that he blamed his church's pedophile scandal on their "regional morals."

They might've liked to have known that in Iowa, too, btw -- that he was making excuses for his church, essentially.

One of the reasons I support Ron Paul, is because I can relate to his "States Rights" stance. Australia has a land mass the same size as America with a population of 22 million. Even the "Federal Government" is under scrutiny. The political system here is by no means perfect, but people still feel 'Empowered." This is one of the things that is often over-looked when Ron Paul speaks of "States Rights." It gives people in their "community" the right of "self determination."

dude, its just fucked up. dont try to figure it out you'll just give yourslef an anyerism. People are stupid.

This is the way Americans elect their leaders? I love you Ron Paul supporters, but I'm about to take a break.

Too much bullshit from your establishment. You have lost control...

We lost control long before you were born.
At least there is some pressure in the right direction now. :)
