I'm in the process of setting up an Everquest emulator at my house. I was thinking though, with the relatively low system requirements and what-not we could have a Liberty Forest server for forum members to get together and play/hang out.

I don't know if I could keep the server up full-time but maybe we could rent a Virtual Private Server for about $30 a month that we could all play on. The admin could give out 10 slot bags or something similar for donations to pay the fee.

Would anyone be interested in playing? It's not a hard game to learn and despite it being years old it's still pretty fun especially when you group up with friends.

Never played it. I still play Quake 3 though sometimes.... who's game?

Is Everquest abandonware? Or do you still have to buy it?

Hubby and I used to play EQ. Haven't in a couple years though.

We *may* be interested...I will have to ask him.

Sorry, 3 years as a raiding ranger 4 nights a week was enough for me.

Bah, start up a Darkfall clan ;)

In all seriousness, what is an EverQuest emulator and how is it legal? I might hop on if it's legit and I don't have to purchase anything ;)

It's not legal. but hey, there is pretty lively discussion over your "right" to download free music, so I am sure there will be some takers.

As in your 'right' to steal from someone else? Hmm, no thanks. Something tells me that the EverQuest design team isn't taking Trent Reznor's approach to media distribution...

Complex topic, though...

If it's not legit, count me out..I mean it's only 14 bucks to play every month as it is...not worth the risk to me.

THe software is free, the subscription to their server is what costs.

There are cracked servers out there, people do it all the time.

According to the developers of eqemu it is 100% legal. They don't use the eq content and they aren't modifying the client and distributing it as their own. There are lots of emulators out there that have been running publicly for years.

You do have to buy the game though. I think it runs around $30.

I personally don't much time to play but it would be something for me to do on Friday and Saturday nights after my kids are asleep.

So rather than set up a server of my own, I'm playing on the Shards of Dalaya EqEmu server. It's a pretty cool server with some features enabled that I don't remember in Live when I used to play. The most players I've seen online is around 500.

It's pretty simple to install but you'll need to acquire a copy of Everquest Titanium Edition to play. You can get it off of ebay for about $5-10 or whatever other means you have at your disposal.

The economy doesn't seem to be as inflated as EQ live but I'm still a newb so I may be wrong.

If you're interested in getting together and killing some mobs, let me know.

What, exactly, is being stolen?

If you have an axe on your porch and I take it from you, then you're out an axe. That's stealing.

If you loan me the axe on your porch, and use a magic machine to make a replica, can the person who made the axe sue me? No, of course not, and I didn't steal the axe from anybody, everybody who had an axe before still has one.
