Eric Cantor to lose primary? [Update: Cantor Loses!!]

Let's use words that ring true, and call it an invasion issue, because that's what it is. Being libertarian doesn't mean being dimwitted enough to open the gates for barbarians to overrun the country.
First off, most illegal immigrants are not "barbarians"

illegal immigration can be a divisive issue among the liberty / conservative crowd.

Some people think that it is a form of trespassing and breaking of the rule of law.

Other people think that the government should not be able to regulate the supply curves of labor.

I agree with both positions.

Wow. I think I agree with you. hmmmmm.

Are :D in order...? Yes, I think :D's are in order, so....:D :D :D

House Majority Leader & all-around Establishment hack goes down in flames? ...

Washington Post story from this morning:

A conservative challenger is expected to fall far short of defeating House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) in Tuesday’s congressional primary. Disorganization and poor funding have stymied the campaign of tea party activist David Brat, even as he tapped into conservative resentment toward a party leader who has been courting the Republican right for years.

Brat, an economics professor, simply failed to show up to D.C. meetings with powerful conservative agitators last month, citing upcoming finals. He only had $40,000 in the bank at the end of March, according to first quarter filings. Cantor had $2 million.

Washington Post has now deleted this article.

Looks like they "updated" the article by changing the title and replacing big chunks of it (the bits that turned out to be embarrassingly wrong, at least).

Get a load of this from the new text they added:

Cantor quickly exited the ballroom [after making his concession address] for a waiting SUV, ignoring questions from reporters.

But to add to the drama of the evening, after Cantor left, immigration activists stormed the ballroom, screaming and waving a flag. “What do we want? Immigration reform! When do we want it? Now!”

A Spanish-speaking hotel employee took the microphone Cantor had used and told the protestors in Spanish that the police were on their way.

I wonder if the Monty Python gang could make this stuff up ...

Here's a statistic to remember... Eric Cantor HOUSE MAJORITY leader, Cantor raised 41 Times more campaign money and is the first sitting House Majority leader to be defeated since 1899. There is hope after all Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The people are greater than all that hot Wall Street money. This "upset" proves it.

What I want to know is how I have never heard of Dave Brat before today. Not even on RPF. He's not even listed in the Liberty Candidates for Congress thread! And he beats Cantor?

I keep my ear to the ground yet have never heard of him until today and he ran in a neighboring state. Wow. Gotta ponder this one. His grassroots door-to-door strategy apparently won.

Spoken like a true politician.

Hey Matt, are you still sure that direct mail and treating every state the same, f retail politics, is the winning strategy?? This thread here is DEFINITELY worth the read.

I love this, from the rewritten WaPo article that's been spoken of in this thread.

On Capitol Hill, Cantor’s defeat will create enormous uncertainty in the House. Cantor, 51, had been considered the next generation’s GOP leader, who would take over for House Speaker John A. Boehner (Ohio) when Boehner, 64, retired. In a caucus deeply divided between establishment Republicans and fire-breathing conservatives, these were the two who had shown some ability to keep order.

Now, there is no heir. And there may be no order.

Finally, a clear example of how smart those architects of Liberty were back in the 18th century. Asshole congressman ignores the will of the people? If enough people are pissed off enough, they can make changes in their government. Granted, this is a small change - a symbolic victory - but tonight I feel as though those folks around Richmond deserve a big pat on the back.

Fuck the old order. They don't speak for any of us citizens, only the guys with the fattest wallets. I hope this scares the shit out of the GOP!
