Epic facepalm moments

Someone has been drinking the Kool Aid. There is nothing stopping two men from forming a legal contract.

Marriage is a religious institution which government has no business dictating rules and regulations related to it. The definition of marriage is between a man and a woman. Gays whom have a problem with that definition should take it up with their church or start a new religious organization that redefines it as something else.

The gay marriage movement could have done us all a favor and lobbied for the elimination of government laws related to marriage. But instead they insist on re-definition of marriage and for all of us to recognize it infringing on the religious beliefs of others and further ensuring government interfere in family life where they certainly do not belong.

Marriage could be between cake and ice cream but who cares. I 100% agree that Marriage should have nothing to do with Government. You didn't have to type out RP's stance on it as if you were somehow teaching me something. If there are going to be Government defined marriages, then it should include everybody. If it doesn't then the government is just running paperwork for the churches which is even worse than them getting involved in the first place. The Bold statement I agree with 100%. The one after seems to be praying all stays the same between Church and State, if the government calls it marriage then its there fault everyone wants to use the term... "please check one: Married____Single____Divorced_____Civil Union______" just continues to make them a group that will continue to go after world saving liberals for free money. Oh, Sorry, I should have said Fiat Money!

"Sure it is. A bunch of collectivized via bedroom practices (let's hope it stays there) members of a distinct subculture and its afficiandos, hidden and not, get collectivized privileges and that is wiping out collectivization..."

I agree, it is super queer. But groups only seem to exist at all these days because a stupid subsidy or privilege is formed for a group or groups then denied to another. Only solution is getting rid of all the privileges all together I guess...Denying groups anything makes them stronger. Giving all "privileges" to the individual only makes them all go away.

We're in this mess 'cause of the Free Market excesses, deregulation... (usually stating that it started with Reagan).

"Wellllll, the Democrats like care for poor people and middle class, and the Republicans are for all the Rich people..."

I have been opening a lot of conversations with friends here in MA with "what do you think is the difference between Republicans and Democrats?" And from almost all I get a form of this quote above. They are not morons, they could just care less about politics and only think about it maybe :30 minutes a year for real. But these people all vote like clockwork. A good set up for me though. "No income tax, no taxes on tips, bring troops home and no taxes for first 40k, drug war, police state, he delivered babies etc....it is very very easy to make RP look like the hero he is when you get a good opening.

My Wife was an avid scrapbooker for a time and she told me of one conversation she had with a scrapbooking friend during the last election:

Wife: "A lot of the people I know are voting for Hillary just because she is a woman"

Friend: (awkward silence) "Hillary Duff is running for President?"

What makes this extra horrible is that scrapbooking friend is a 4th grade teacher

I have heard so many outrageous statements worthy of a facepalm... Other I can add are:

"So Lincoln was not perfect.. at least he made the slaves free"

"FDR saved our country by his strength during WW2"

I am sure I will be adding many more as this thread goes on.

I facepalmed today when I saw a bumpersticker that said:

"Don't blame me, I voted for McCain."

UGH!

"Food and water are not commodities, they are rights."

Sorry, I didn't realize food and water were untraded goods that spawn from fairy dust for all to consume. Oh wait...

"Ron Paul fans are crazy and they will destroy this country."

Yes. A guy said that right to my face at the SLRC. I tried to reason with him for a bit, then decided he was a lost cause and moved on.

If it isn't then what is?

I feel it is one more huge step towards wiping out collectivism, probably the biggest left as far as a group of people everyone else wants to dictate too...

lul Because gay's can't get a job, vote. They don't have freedom of speech either. Gays can get married btw, but only legally to the opposite sex.

Here is mine arguing with a family member of my Fiancee on facebook today "people who work for medicare don't own yachts. Have I started speaking a different language than you or something? I mean, honestly Medicare isnt government oppression. I think I need to stop this conversation now, before it gets too stupid. People are greedy. The government is made up of people, but it, in and of itself isn't a sentient being that can have attributes like greed. You want to live and die by your own hard work, but you admit that you would use government handouts if you were in dire straights. I mean... I don't want to call you names, but what else could I say than you are a hypocrite? I'll stop short. I'll say that I misunderstand your muddy argument, and I won't call you a hypocrite. I'm going to stop this argument now, and not respond. I'm sure you'll get a last word in, but I'll let it go. You have fun living and dying by your own hard work while you're young and strong. I hope you never have to use any of those big government handouts that you hate, but if you do, I hope you'll realize that people put them there for just such an occasion, and have some GD respect for the liberals and socialists who are feeding you and giving you basic survival on that day"

Murkowski as to why she's a better choice than Joe..

"The state can't afford a Senator who follows the constitution."

"I voted for the lesser of two evils" -Everyone I know in 2008. (non-Ron supporters)

My view on that is if you vote for the lesser of two evils and your candidate wins, then you accomplished the opposite.

My mom: "it's the government's job to take care of everyone"

My ex: "everyone with a gun is a potential murderer"

A different ex: "people should be forced to pay taxes because that's fair"

Former editor of The Economist when I said I think the Fed should be abolished: "then who'd print the dollar?"
