Drug tests

So let me start by saying that during the end of November up until Dec 16 I was working 80 hours a week on overtime projects. As you can imagine I got really stressed and wanted to relax so I smoked. I hadn't smoked in months before this but I see nothing wrong with doing it every once in a while. Yadda yadda yadda I went on an interview for a GREAT job and had to do a drug test. I smoked 10 or 11 days before I did the test and am nervous, anxious, and depressed as hell over the results which I'll get Friday! I just need to rant about this because its consuming me. Amazing that the timing was just bad with all this. I really wish this country had the liberties the establishment says we have.

I might not get this great job because I smoked a little one day even though I never do it. If I did cocaine, meth or something harder I wouldn't even worry cause that stuff leaves your system in a few days (not that I've ever done that stuff). Why does this country seem to go after smokers?????

Anyways, I'll let everyone know on Friday.

Good luck.

Also, in many cases (certainly not always) they are looking for the hard stuff and will ignore THC.

I have a theory that uptight people just don't like others to have a good time or relax too much. Unconfirmed, but I also think they think that cancer patients should suffer. They do have cancer after all. /s

Think about every horror movie you have ever seen. It usually contains some people having a good time until they start drinking, smoking, having sex, etc. Then the evil is punished by some scary thing while they die one-by-one. I think it is just buried in our collective psyche. Unfortunately, I think the horror movie has become reality. Hopefully everyone will wake up soon. I still have hope.

Good luck btw!

There is a bottom level and if your account of your consumption is anywhere close to accurate you will pass with flying colors.

If it had been any other drug you would be all set, but weed is another story. From what I understand it stored in your body fat and depending on your body fat content and how much you smoke it can stay in your system up to thirty days.I don't know your situation, but if you only smoke once in a while you should pass.Good luck and let us know.....................

I thought private companies can do whatever the hell they want to, including drug testing you?

Good luck.

I would never work for a company that would require me to submit myself for testing.
I think it is unethical for a company to try and control what someone does in their off time.
Do they really think that joint you smoked at that concert over the weekend is going to effect your work on monday?
If you walk into work high, then fire you, just like if you walked in drunk, you are a danger to everyone else in the workplace.
I would be willing to bet this drug testing phenomenon has something to do with lower insurance rates for those who test...

Where I live if you want a decent job, you WILL be drug tested. Unless perhaps you are self employed or enjoy working fast food.

They can; the problem in my eyes is this (the inequality)
If a person is excluded from a job because the employer erroneously "regarded" him/her to be an addict currently using drugs illegally when a drug test revealed the presence of a lawfully prescribed drug, the employer would be liable under the ADA. To avoid such potential liability, the employer would have to determine whether the individual was using a legally prescribed drug. Because the employer may not ask what prescription drugs an individual is taking before making a conditional job offer, one way to avoid liability is to conduct drug tests after making an offer, even though such tests may be given at anytime under the ADA. Because applicants who test positive for illegal drugs are not covered by the ADA, an employer can withdraw an offer of employment on the basis of illegal drug use (EEOC, 1992

Some drug users are protected. I might prefer to hire a pot-head rather than somebody on anti-depressives or anti-psychotics.

Smoked what?

Bananas.
http://sniggle.net/banana.php
You can find a “bananadine” extraction recipe in The Anarchist Cookbook, and the legend was allegedly the inspiration for Donovan’s folk-rock song “Mellow Yellow” (“E-lec-trical banana / Is gonna be a sudden craze”). The band Country Joe & the Fish claim to have passed banana joints to their audiences.

One story I heard makes the hoax out to be a yippie prank planted in the Berkeley Barb in 1967 and designed to throw the authorities into a tizzy wondering how they were going to crack down on the banana trade.

I could not swear how valid these figures are but if it was a one- time deal and you don't smoke regularly, you will probably be OK. I have seen figures for three to ten days for marijuana- seems it can build up in your system and the more you use the longer it takes to clear. They have a chart for how long all kinds of drugs will stay in your system. http://www.passyourdrugtest.com/timetable.htm

My company told me there would be a drug test before I could get hired. I asked them if they could provide me with any study materials. jk.

I passed, I got the job, moving on up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats and happy New Year!

Now for the chastisement: What lack of good judgment drove you to smoke dope in an environment where testing is a possibility and a positive result might end up with you losing your job in a market as bad as this?

Pot should not be illegal but it is. Employers should not care what you do on your own time, but they do when the effects are perceived to potentially spill over into the time you owe them as employee. Employment is at-will and if employers do not want stoners, it is well within their prerogative to punt you if they discover your status.

Common sense clearly dictates you show some self control, or at least better planning if you know a test could be coming up. Not trying to bust on you, but to point out a serious flaw in your thinking. It seems clear you wish to keep your job. Is smoking dope really that important that you would risk loss of your livelihood? Sorry, but that makes no sense to me at all.

As an aside, I have known literally thousands of pot-heads and a common thread among a huge proportion of them is this apparent lack of good judgment and an unwillingness or inability to give that shit up in a way very similar found with the alcoholic. Proponents say it is harmless, but anything that drives people to act against their own better interests is not harmless. Just because smoking a joint doesn't cause one's dick to fall off immediately or to run around town murdering one's neighbors, it does not follow that there are no hazards. Those can be subtle. But people believe what they want to believe and bullshit themselves endlessly to rationalize their choices. So be it. I will never advocate prohibition, but when choices end one up in some shit, I will similarly be absent from the league of sympathetic wailers. I don't care what people do, but I also accept that private transactions often hold seemingly arbitrary but nevertheless valid consequences. Complain all you want about what should or should not be - it makes no difference in the context of what is fact. Most employers don't want dopers and they are well within their rights to eliminate those they uncover. Liberty cuts both ways.
