Rick Santorum DRUDGE: "Santorum's Satan Warning" (attacks mainline Protestantism)

I'm not so sure...he said that it seemed that Satan had a hold on mainstream Protestants. If people are unaware that he's Catholic, this will really wake them up. He is not one of them.

No, not mainSTREAM, mainLINE.

This is standard issue, red meat, social conservative, culture wars talk. Plenty of Republicans agree with Santorum.

Santorum, in his attempt to win the Republican Nomination, is targeting Republicans. Not a crazy strategy at all.

dunno, at least one of the protestant leaders he pals around with actually denies that Christ was the messiah. and that dude is still held up as some type of christian leader.

Why i am not surprised that the only people and fools who believe Rick Santorum are the SEAN HANNITY forums?
Heres a quote from the fake veteran
If you only read one sentence from any speech you can find things to wrongly criticize in such a way.

I'd suggest looking at the full context and if you do you'll come away with a completely different view.

He wasn't claiming protestants are not following the bible, he's saying that as a political and ideological force protestantism is in trouble.

He's correct.

Yeah and i doubt the faker didn't even read the link just posted it anyway.

The speech was in 2008 when Santorum wasn't running for president. And in the age of sound bite journalism all most people are going to here (if someone will play this right) is "Protestant". Lastly Santorum's seeking out the Protestant world for criticism as opposed to the Catholic world can open him up for attack.

That's why we have to make this about attacking protestantism. I hate to play the "sectarian" card, but he's the one that went there.

But, he isn't. There are evangelical Protestants that he is NOT attacking. What Santorum is saying is nothing new, nothing unorthodox. He's saying that some protestant denominations are not fighting culture wars, but capitulating in them.

Disagree.

A lot of evangelicals pretty much consider mainline Protestants to be fake Christians. More importantly nobody is in a position to criticize Santorum on this. None of the other candidates are Protestants except for Paul, but I don't think it's Paul's style to attack in this way. Foxnews will back Santorum and evangelicals don't trust MSM. So there's nobody left to spin this against him.

Let's just leave Santorum alone on this one. This is a Republican primary and we really don't want to be fighting the culture war on the unpopular side.

People know all about the culture war. Santorum is clearly on one side of it. We aren't going to pick up more votes by attacking Santorum here.

1) Baptists are considered a "mainline" protestant denomination. (See: http://www.thearda.com/mapsReports/reports/mainline.asp) Where I live this would be death for Santorum.

2) Who said anything about Paul running with this? He's not good on doing smears anyway. It doesn't come natural for him.

3) Coupling this with blaming America for Catholic pedophile priests makes Santorum look insane. You stay away with it if you want. I smell red meat.

He went overboard by saying churches like United Methodists and American Baptists are "outside the world of Christianity". That's what he really said. That would be a death knell for him if it got major press where I live, and yes it would be a death knell even in a republican nomination. There are people who aren't really "evangelical" by the definition that Santorum is using who think they are. If they realized Santorum said the denomination the belonged to and loved wasn't even Christian there is no way in hell they would vote for him.

Maybe that's true where you are. But, for a while even the Southern Bapstists were going liberal and evangelical churches and schools dropped out of the convention until the conservatives regained power.

But, my point stands... Who's left to make this attack and spin it?

Your average voter isn't any more versed in church politics as they are national politics.

Who pushed the Herman Cain infidelity stories? It was never attributed to any particular campaign to my knowledge. It shouldn't come from the Paul campaign itself. But it could be tweeted, Facebooked etc.

That's the story. Too bad the media will not cover it.

(Well, the left media might cover it if he was the GOP nominee, but they would wait until then, if at all).
