theres no such thing as too much contact. even if people are getting mad. The campaign knows what it is doing.

the list that PFH is calling is relegated to the second tier for a reason FYI. Nothing against PFH but the lists made of gold are going to be handled by volunteers in Iowa.

Is there an ambassador of the campaign on the forums that can put this debate to rest?

Doesn't the PFH software prevent multiple calls? And for the record I don't know why the campaign doesn't just use robocalls for GOTV efforts. While I typically hate robocalls, I appreciate them when they are simply a reminder for something I've already decided to do.

Use some sense and put yourself in the shoes of an Iowan that's been living this thing for months now and bombarded with calls.

The usefulness of this program, great thought it was, has now been exhausted. Take a couple hours to switch off, feed the dog, play with the kids, take a shower, grab a bite, then come back and watch the caucus results.

As they might say in Iowa, the hay is in the barn.

I watched overly enthusistic kids in NH annoy residents back in 08'

Campaign needs to know when they are being effective & when you are turning people off.

I just got screamed at by some guy who says I'm the third volunteer to call his cell phone and that the last one said he was selecting Do Not Call. Claimed he's not going to go to the caucus, etc.

Is it possible there's someone sabotaging us by using the system and intentionally clicking the wrong things, etc? I mean the program seems to let anybody sign up to make calls...

Don't change your tactics until the campaign directs you to.

I took a campaigning class through Young Americans for Liberty and they stressed that there is no such thing as too much GOTV.

Tell them you are from the Rick Santorum and Jerry Sandusky campaign and that no childrens behinds will be left behind.

In general, I agree with this sentiment. You're true supporters won't be turned off by too much contact, and you are likely to see net benefit amongst soft supporters, some of whom will be turned off, but more of whome will be convinced and informed on where to go.

That said, I clearly remember the orange-hatted fools of 8 years ago, and how annoying the population may well have cost Dean the caucuses. I would hate to be witnessing a reapeat of that debacle.

Someone wrote this a few minutes ago, apologies to the writer as I just copy-pasted it and have been pasting it around Facebook.

Don't give up on the calls. It is working. I've had two fence sitters who may now attend after spending some time on the phone with them. Start with "I'm xxx. Have you been contacted today about attending the caucus tonite at 7 pm." Then go into the Ron Paul bit if they are willing to talk. If they get pissy who cares - they can't associate the call with Paul.

I'm a little shy of 50 calls and most people are very nice. It's very rewarding when a fellow supporter thanks you for a call before going into battle. One guy talked with me about his speech. This is what we worked for the last 4 years - don't cave now in a fit of defeatism.

there's no such thing as a soft ron paul supporter. i'm not worried.

Be careful with that. You may be spending too much time on the forums, or with other RP volunteers, and be suffering from a bit of group think.

Not everyone is a die-hard RP fan. Many of them are recent converts who like him better than the other candidates, but are NOT "Ron Paul or DEATH!" type zealots.

I've convinced a bunch of my friends and family members to support Ron Paul, but a number of them will do little more than show up to vote, and I suspect that if they were harassed, they might even reconsider that.

Annoying people is never a good idea.

+rep

the other side of this is that a ton of people are just now home from work.

everyone has to decide for themselves.

There are definitely "soft" Ron Paul supporters. I've spoken to several today. After Phoning from Home, you realize that most people only casually follow politics.

Okay, seems to be a bit of a fustercluck. Multiple calling is not going to win people over. Still, the main point is, the people who are going to be the most ticked off are the ones who weren't going anyway. After all, if you weren't going to something, wouldn't you get annoyed about people calling about it over and over? Only about a sixth of voters actually go to the caucus anyway, and I believe most of the negative effects will be on the rest who aren't even going to vote. In short: yes this is a problem, no it's not massive. Needs to be fixed for NH though.

Is it not possible to gauge their mood with a generic initial comment which doesn't inform them of what campaign you are calling on behalf of, and then strategically deflect the anti if need be?

"Hello! I'm calling about the caucus...."
"How dare you? Do you realize how much I've been pestered? I am sick of these calls!"
"Well, on behalf of the Santorum/Romney campaign I think you should calm down and accept that this call is a very worthy and noble cause, mmk?"
"[Insert angry response here]"

*Phone slam*
