for a freaking CONTINENT. (sheer lunacy) - because although the Greenlanders have independence, it's still under the Danish crown, that is, if the Danish crown wants to or can exercise authority, who knows, or the Danish democratic pols. So, the idea that THE UNITED STATES corporation could perform the hard-labour keyboard stroke and POOF, 1 Trillion from the Bank (London); simply distribute it amongst 50,000 Geenlanders (making them get 20 million per head) is probably off-base. Plus, theoretically, THE UNITED STATES Congress is supposed to have the only authority to borrow the money. Nobody knows anymore. I mean, he's talking about using military force not only against Greenland and Denmark but Panama, Mexico, Venezuela, maybe even Canada. We can all start chanting "Fifty-Four Forty Or Fight" like the old days. Now there was a missed opportunity... eh?

This is why you need a demagogue. A narcissistic blowhard like Trump seems well-positioned to convince the American public that we would be "taking over" these other countries, rather than the U.S. states ceding their sovereign rights to a globalist entity.

While I understand your point, incorporating Canada/Greenland into the United States as new States isn't the same thing as creating a supranational North American Union organization to dictate policy to the Federal government ala the EU to European nations.

As the Trump administration intensifies efforts to acquire Greenland from Denmark − or take it by force − some Silicon Valley tech investors are promoting the frozen island as a site for a so-called freedom city, a libertarian utopia with minimal corporate regulation, three people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The discussions are in early stages, but the idea has been taken seriously by Trump's pick for Denmark ambassador, Ken Howery, who is expected to be confirmed by Congress in the coming months and lead Greenland-acquisition negotiations, the people said. Howery, whose involvement with the idea hasn't been previously reported, once co-founded a venture-capital firm with tech billionaire Peter Thiel, a leading advocate for such low-regulation cities.

My first thoughts are, if Trump cares so much [which he doesn't about you and me], why not America, so as not to by force "persuade" Greenland from being under Technocratic/USA control?
