Donald Trump: U.S. should purchase/annex Greenland from Denmark

Trump Cancels Meeting With Danish Leader Over Greenland No-Sale
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...ader-over-greenland-no-sale?srnd=premium-asia

Can you believe this guy? He cancelled a previously scheduled meeting with the Danish PM
because she didn't want to sell Greenland!

What a spoiled brat !

Also he cancelled over twitter, real diplomacy at work.

Has anyone explained to trump that Greenland isn't so green, so he couldn't be putting a golf course there? Or is he seeing all the recent attention on the glacial melt in Greenland being faster than expected and thinking if his EPA was in charge of that we wouldn't have those pesky scientists measuring water melt?

After her polite denial that Greenland was not for sale, Trump calls her "nasty". Trump was going to be treated to a full state visit with all of the pageantry he loves. Poor Trump's feelings got hurt. He will punish them by not going to the dinner.

Greenland: Trump criticises 'nasty' Denmark over cancelled visit

US President Donald Trump has called the Danish leader "nasty" after she rebuffed his idea of buying Greenland.

He lashed out hours after Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said she was "sorry" that Mr Trump had abruptly called off a state visit to Denmark.

She has dismissed the suggestion of such a land deal as "absurd".

Queen Margrethe II invited Mr Trump to visit Denmark on 2 September, and the manner of his cancellation has stunned the Scandinavian nation.

What did the US president say?
Speaking to reporters on the White House lawn on Wednesday afternoon, Mr Trump took umbrage at Ms Frederiksen's remarks.

"I thought that the prime's statement that it was absurd, that it was an absurd idea was nasty," he said.

"I thought it was an inappropriate statement. All she had to do is say no, we wouldn't be interested."

He added: "She's not talking to me. She's talking to the United States of America. You don't talk to the United States that way, at least under me."

What did the Danish PM say?

Earlier on Wednesday, Ms Frederiksen reiterated that Greenland could not be bought.

She told reporters the idea of selling the resource-rich Arctic island had "clearly been rejected" by its leader, Kim Kielsen, "a position I share of course".

Ms Frederiksen also said the American president's visit would have been an "opportunity to celebrate Denmark's close relationship to the US".

"This does not change the character of our good relations and we will continue our dialogue on how we can deal with challenges we are facing," she said, adding that the invitation to Mr Trump "remains open".

She has said Mr Trump's no-show was a matter of regret because "our preparations were well under way".

Climate Change (which Trump says is a Chinese conspiracy) is ironically melting Greenland ice so maybe all those natural mineral resources could be more easily gotten to.

Look up "anthropological" climate change vs. normal climate change.

Has china stopped destroying the ozone layer via using CFCs that are outlawed and not used by another other country on the planet?

When you are expecting a visit from a President you are gambling, he may not show for many reasons,
if its worth the expense , have at it, if you can't afford it, send post cards.

We should just take it. What is Denmark gonna do about it?

Well when "we" take it, I assume you'll be leading the charge to take some bullets? Or will you be sitting on your ass waiting for actual tough guys to put their lives on the line for this stupidity? I bet I know the answer...

Grow a sense of humor.
If you can.

That's not irony. It's coincidence. "Better figure out the difference ..."

And anyway, what have you got against the Greenland Citrus Growers Association ... ?

Trump lied when he said the PM of Greenland "talked about America." She simply called Trump's idea "absurd." Trump called her comment "nasty" and his cancellation of the state visit was childish.

Trump didn't call her nasty, he called her comment nasty. Everything else you just said is speculation.

I didn't say he did. My saying Trump said the PM of Greenland "talked about America" is not speculation. It is a direct quote from Trump. And he lied.

American cultural influence is already evident in Greenland’s capital Nuuk, according to Berbrick, who visited the island last December. Greenlandic children learning English as a foreign language has become a priority for some on the island while at the same time preserving their culture and official Greenlandic indigenous language, said Berbrick.
“When you walk around Nuuk, you’re sitting at a café or a restaurant listening to Taylor Swift and watching CNN and hearing people speak English, so they affiliate and are more connected with North America rather than Europe,” said Berbrick, a former senior adviser to the special representative for the Arctic region at the State Department.
Some Greenlanders’ desire for independence is another factor in the American appetite for an expanded partnership, according to the former official in a Republican administration.
The aspiration for freedom from Danish control among some Greenlanders was “something we never put in official documents because it might have pissed off the Danes, but it was something that was in pretty much every briefing,” said the former official.
