The way the topics are going is just a manifestation of a quirk in the organization of the subforums. I don't think it's much more than that.
I don't know why didn't create the Trump subforum so people can read it or ignore the forum entirely.
Sorry to state the obvious, some people read the forum for entertainment too. You probably didn't watch Trump's announcement speech, but if you did you'll note he is new and entertaining and people laugh at the situations that happened around him. Not the end of the world.
