Does libertarianism require support for open borders?

Politics is downstream from culture, cultural compatibility is a natural interest.

Trump's golden visa is the perfect solution for actually necessary labor immigration, if your company needs someone badly enough to fork over millions of dollars for permission to import him then you must actually need him.
And I agree there needs to be a human citizen responsible for you.

I think raising the bar too high will just end up boomeranging back and the Ds will be able to reinstitute a new version (probably worse) of their immigration scam. Yes, politics is downstream of culture but (a) most people assimilate over time and (b) some cultural importation is harmless so long as it does not derail our core cultural values. We don't need a waterproof seal on the culture, it just needs to be weatherproof.

Most people don't assimilate, it takes multiple generations before it really starts to happen significantly.
And the greater the percentage of foreigners is the slower they assimilate and the more they change you instead.

I'm not advocating for zero immigration ever, just for Coolidge levels or less from only the most compatible cultures.

At this point with Trump's flip / flop...to quote Hillary "What difference does it make?"
All he's done thus far is say some words. I haven't seen anything that's actionable yet. He said, "Changes are coming," and for all I know that means he's going to be activating the National Guard or employing military troops to step in and replace undocumented workers in the agriculture and hospitality industries. It's not like he's ever been bound by the constitutional limits of his office.

"Yo, Seal Team 6 ... table 23 needs to be bussed" <<play appropriate action movie music>>

Can't have freedom of movement with a welfare State.

What Milton Friedman really said about immigration:

"Look, for example, at the obvious, immediate, practical example of illegal Mexican immigration. Now, that Mexican immigration, over the border, is a good thing. It’s a good thing for the illegal immigrants. It’s a good thing for the United States. It’s a good thing for the citizens of the country. But, it’s only good so long as it’s illegal."

Which lies of Trump are we supposed to believe?

All of this legal/illegal is causing the great divide, and only bolsters the federal government and Police State.

I am very good with undocumented. This way they can either work to support themselves, or look elsewhere. "Undocumented", or "illegal", means they cannot walk into a government office and get free stuff. But, that is not what the statists want on either side of the isle.

Libertarian is not defined by its position on borders. If it were, it would have no definition at all.

And it's working like a charm -- where it's being tried.
