Does anyone else just not go to the doctor?

Haven't been to the doctor since I was like 13.
Closest I've done since then is I think go to some nurse office at the school because they required some checkup and shots since I hadn't had a physical within the last year.

I've only been to a doctor a handful of times in my life.

I go to the doctor when I am sick. What exactly do you have against doctors? There are good doctors and bad doctors. A person needs to practice the free market and find a good doctor.

I rarely go...although I do have a bad habit of ending up in the ER every 2-3 years. Appendicitis, Spleen lacerations, wrist lacerations, etc....

This is my situation too, lol.
Well, not always the ER. But I've had a few issues that needed attention.
One visit to the ER due to gallbladder explosion.

I went when I got a kidney stone 4 years ago, but that was after lying in bed dealing with excruciating pain for 3 hours. They told me I should have gone to the emergency room. I told them to STFU & give me drugs to numb my insides. ;)

WIMP! I held out for 72 hrs.

It was NOT fun, and I did end up in the emergency room.
Although the pain was, as you say, excruciating, I think the worst part was the stress from what I was imagining. I was convinced I had cancer and a tumor the size of a grapefruit! When the diagnosis was kidney stones, it was quite a relief for me.

That was last year and was the first medical attention I had in over 20 years. I was advised to see a urologist when the stones passed in order to have them analyzed, but I never did.

(j/k about the wimp part);)

If I do need to go for some reason I've went to the Minute Clinic and just paid cash.
The "minute clinics" are a great free market solution. I would definitely recommend them to others.

i dont goto the doctor. i follow dr. mercola, and try to take as best care of myself as I can.
On a related note, the alternative health care providers are going to have the most to lose from any healthcare legislation. They aren't gonna be on the approved list and the income people have that would have been spent on those solutions will be forced to be paid to allopathic insurance programs. Good bye money for vitamins, chiropractors, naturopaths, etc...In fact, I view this legislation that is proposed as the way they have decided to kill that industry.

Yeah I wouldn't call anyone that even dealt with kidney stone pain for 5 minutes a wimp. I talked to a couple women who had kidney stones & kids and they all agreed on one thing--the kidney stones hurt more than giving birth. The body isn't supposed to pass a rock out the urethra. Back on the pain thing, they gave me vicodin & I took that until I passed the stone 6 days later. I was basically popping those things every 6 or 8 hours (whatever they told me) including during the middle of the night. Once it started wearing off the overwhelming pain would kick back in and it was just too much. I have a very high pain tolerance but that was too much. It felt like getting punched in the kidney while getting kicked in the balls every time my heart beat.

With that said, I HATED being on vicodin. I really did feel like my entire body was numb, including my mind. I couldn't focus on anything. It was like being in a dream state. It was better than the pain, but not by much.

Bless me Father for I have sinned.

I have been with my present employer for over 15 years. In that time I went to the doctor 1) becasue I broke my ankle 2) I had my thumb crushed at work and 3) once for a sinus infection. In that time I have called in sick at work once too. No- I don't go to the doctor much. And I do have employer provided health insurance.

The "reason" behind this is that if one gets checked before hand, say for a mole that is cancerous, that it can be treated earlier and cheaper. Were such an individual to be forced to pay for his own service, he would not. He would wait, until his condition worsens, to the point of it being life threatening. Since it is life threatening, said individual may seek treatment at a hospital, for free. Since his condition has progressed, his treatment of his disease will now be much higher, and will still be paid for by the general public.. $150 vs $15000 is the thinking.

But the numbers don't support the savings. Out of the million man MD march, only a very, very few will have a condition that actually benefits from early detection. But the money was spent to examine each and every one of those million men.

Not to mention the fact that soon sick people will have a hard time getting in to see doctors because everybody will be wantin' their free check ups, so the conditions that might benefit from early detection will not be diagnosed until later.

I wont go to the doctor unless it is an absolute emergency. I maintain my health by eating fairly healthy and exercising almost everyday. If i have a sickness or an injury on a small to medium scale I treat it without going to the doctor, obviously if it gets worse I will have no choice but to go to the doctor.

I never go to doctors... If a problem persists I go to the internet and look for herbal medications. Back when I was a child, I thought a Doctor really knew his stuff... now I think I know more than they do. And one thing I have learned is if you have really good medical coverage, you will be run through every test in the book. No medical coverage, you'll be out in ten minutes with a bottle of Bayer, lol..

I haven't been to the doctor in about 10 years. They screwed up prescribing some meds, and it led to problems. Since then, I decided to take my health into my own hands. Since that time I've rarely been sick (I don't think I've had so much as a cold in the last 7 years). I haven't taken any prescription or over the counter meds in 10 years.

If I'm forced to buy full coverage health insurance, I think I may go to the doctor like 3 times a week just to screw the system.:D

My friend and I were talking about this a couple of weeks ago. She's an herbalist and has always sought holistic health care. Right ow her insurance covers some services from a naturopath but she expects that will change when the Fed HC comes through.
