Enforcement is what makes taxes taxes.

Without that, they're just voluntary contributions.

That's why Florida expected to get more revenue by way of this tax increase. If it weren't a tax increase they wouldn't get more revenue.

If you don't murder people, you are making a voluntary contribution to population growth. By your logic, that is a true statement right?

The tax laws were on the books. People were getting away with it, but now aren't. That is all that happened. Nobody increased anything.

That is neither a true statement, nor does it resemble the logic I used.

People were getting away with not paying that tax that was on the books (i.e. they were getting away with not being robbed of money that was and still is rightfully theirs and not the state's) because the state allowed them to get away with it. Now they aren't getting away with it because the state isn't allowing them to.

That's a tax increase.

To put it more bluntly and accurately, the state is stealing more than it did before thanks to DeSantis.

Uh...no. These taxes were not "on the books." People were not "getting away with it." It's the out of state sales tax issue. Prior to this law a retailer in, say Texas, was not required to collect sales tax for residents in Florida. The law Desantis signed changed that. If all 50 states do this (and that's likely), then an online retailer will have to have 50 different sales tax systems set up.

I think he plans to run. He's borrowed a page from Trump by being more assertive. I would like to see a Rand-Kristi Noem ticket.

This is why I can't support him anymore:
https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th...onsors?r=12&s=2&searchResultViewType=expanded

31 out of 49 GOP Senators co-sponsored, including Rand.

Let's mention the ones who did not:
Shelby (AL), Murkowski (AK), Risch (ID), McConnell (KY), Collins (ME), Wicker (MS), Blunt (MO), Fischer (NE), Sasse (NE), Burr (NC), Portman (OH), Toomey (PA), Graham (SC), Rounds (SD), Cornyn (TX), Lee (UT), Romney (UT).

How many of those are genuine objections ? maybe half. maybe. I don't know. All I know is Rand didn't have to co-sponsor, and that's all I need to know.

He expressed general support for Israel.

What a terrible Senator wow.

I may have to throw my support behind Romney, because he didn't cosponsor on this bill.

The presidency is a waste. Best to focus on our local and state races more than anything.

Trump totally OWNs 2o24 and this makes it impossible for RAND to win in '24 so... 2o28 looks better.

Exactly....

If Rand really wants to continue spreading the ideals of liberty, he'll run again but focus on education and rallying at the universities and places like that ala Ron. Ron educated a generation of people in 2007 and 2012. Rand has a similar opportunity to continue that and help build "our" overall numbers. Of course, I don't want to stray into the debate about how "libertarian" he truly is, let's just all be general for the sake of this discussion.

But, thinking he has any shot at the presidency, especially through the GOP who has Trump, DeSantis, Noem, et. al. right now, is a waste of thinking space. I highly suggest people simply focus on lower levels of government where we can actually have impact. In fact, I'd encourage people to just leave the GOP (at least for now, it's Trump's party and there is no turning Trump supporters) and boost the LP and take it over via the Mises Caucus... Let's finally draw the line in the sand and see where our true numbers are with this.

I don't think I can forgive Rand for that time a few years ago when he voted a way that I slightly disagreed with.

Talk about "a waste of thinking space"
