Do you still support Rand Paul

I voted no, even though I never supported him. I don't support someone just because they are related to someone I do support. I was hoping Rand would be like his dad. His vote for economic sanctions against Iran showed me that he is not like him.

No, it just means that he's not 100% like him. Who is actually in lock step with their dad on every single political issue? My dad and I certainly disagree on quite a bit.

lol. People don't oppose Rand because he disagrees with Ron. They oppose him because he voted for sanctions against a country that poses no threat to the security of the United States.

Opposing Rand because of one bad vote is like refusing to date a supermodel because she has a zit on her face.

It depends on what the issue of disagreement is. To give you an extreme example, disagreeing with the holocaust is just one issue, but is enough to withdraw support. This is just to point out that some issues are pretty big. For me, bailouts and sanctions that might lead to war are big issues as well, enough to withdraw support. If I disagreed with Rand naming a post office or something, I wouldn't withdraw it. So your statement "it's just one issue" isn't very accurate, because the issue is related to war and peace. War is the health of the state, so it's very important to be principled.

I understand what you are saying, but you are seriously not going to support the best senator we've had since Goldwater, just because he made one bad vote that absolutely wouldn't have made a difference, if he had voted the other way?

You can be principled and be practical, these things are not mutually exclusive.

Yeah, I won't support him because of that vote. It's a very important issue, this is one of the issues that shouldn't be compromised even if the bill is going to pass anyway.

But I don't trash people who support Rand. I wish them luck.

I agree with you. Those sanctions are hurting innocent people and a nation that has done nothing to us. It is indeed an act of war. Rand should be ashamed of himself, but no, he parrots the PC line that we have to protect Israel and stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons even though there is no evidence they are developing nuclear weapons. Iran has signed the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, Israel hasn't.

I wholeheartedly supported Rand in his 2010 senate race. I have a Rand Paul 2010 t-shirt hanging in my closet and I contributed heavily to his campaign.
Nonetheless, you'll find my vote in the "haven't decided yet" column.
I believe the endorsement was wrong, the timing worse and the venue deplorable.
I have yet to hear any explanation from Rand which satisfies me as to the need for said endorsement. The vague "go along to get along" rationale just doesn't cut it for me. There is no way Rand will be offered the VP slot on a Romney ticket and, to be honest, with guys like Rubio and Christie in the wings, I don't hold out much hope for a 2016 presidential nod.
When there remains an alternative candidate to Romney, when that candidate is a true liberty candidate, and when that candidate is your own father and mentor, you're just gonna have to offer me something more concrete by way of explanation.
I just don't get it and the whole thing just doesn't sit well with me.

That said, I will continue to watch Rand's voting record. But it better be pretty damn near flawless.

He gets no more of my money

That's completely fine. You shouldn't be forced against your conscience. I just don't like people viciously attacking the guy.

Ditto shemdogg, no more money from me either.

Sure I will listen to him and may even agree with his stands at times. But trust him!!! NO WAY!!

Nobody apart from a few vocal loons who you can count on one hand is hurling abuse, let alone 'viciously attacking'.

Stop with the emotive language so we can have a rational discussion on the balance between principle and pragmatism.

Does he have any proven leadership abilities? He's a proven party follower. This movement needs a real leader with balls.

The only reason why Scott Brown, Olympia Snowe, and Susan Collins are more independent is because they're RINO's who vote with the Democrats to expand government. Rand's independent voting record shows that he's in favor of much smaller government than the rest of his party in the Senate.
