It has been an interesting cycle. First there was concern over people consuming too much sugars. SO then they tried to come up with substitutes. Artifical Sweetners. But it was discovered that those caused health problems in some people and cancers in lab rats. So they went with something more "natural"- high fructose corn syrup. Natural- made from corn. Great idea! Eventually it nearly completely replaced sugars in products. Then it was discovered that maybe this was not so good for you either. So now there is a move back to regular sugar again. And add stevia to the "natural" replacement too.
Reminds me of a story I read as a child- (I think it was from 1001 Arabian Nights) where a king was having problems with rats eating up his grain. Then he brought in cats. Got rid of the rats but then they became a problem. Eventually brought in elephants to drive out the cats and they ended up wrecking the place so it brought in rats to drive off the elephants and learned to deal with the rats.
Basically, too much of ANYTHING is not good. Don't eat too much of ANY sugars- "natural" or otherwise.
