Did you guys watch Revolution last night?

It's a new TV series. The first episode was good. I'm hoping that it is as good as Jericho was.

Revolution takes place in a post-apocalyptic future. Fifteen years earlier, an unknown phenomenon disabled all advanced technology on the planet, ranging from computers and electronics to car engines, jet engines, and batteries. People were forced to adapt to a world without technology, and due to the collapse of public order, many areas are ruled by warlords and militias. The series focuses on the Matheson family, who possess an item that is the key to not only finding out what happened fifteen years ago, but also a possible way to reverse its effects. However, they must elude various enemy groups who want to possess that power for themselves

Love JJ Abrams stuff too, but doesn't a show called Revolution that portrays us going back to governmentless anarchy without technology seem like it's got real potential for propagandizing against our efforts?

What, don't look at me like that. There's no doubt that plenty of pop culture has served as a propaganda tool.

I did watch it, and did not like it.

None of this is really a spoiler.

1. An event takes place with some people, and then we hop 15 years into the future. The actors playing teens look much older than they should (not in a "hard life" kind of way), and the people from the event don't really look much older at all. Kind of screws stuff up from the getgo.
2. The militias are evil. They collect taxes. It's the big cliche.
3. You will know the major "plot twists" from the episode long before they are revealed.
4. Medications apparently have no expiration date.
5. Even though people from our society are thrown into this mix, within those 15 years they have apparently learned to sew and manufacture textiles really well.

The rest would have to contain spoilers. It had a few little moments, but I don't think this is message driven. It seems geared more towards capitalizing off of the Hunger Games' popularity.

What is up with this stuff on tv? I've also seen commercials for another show where the actor is like I love my country but I won't stand for a government that kills it's own people. I can't remember the name. I only watch the television when I'm eating meals.

I don't expect much from an NBC corporate show. No doubt it will have typical propaganda, written by soap writers.

It's an action-adventure TV show set in a dystopian future. How realistic do you expect it to be?

I thought it was decent. The "militia" is not how we think of the word. It's just a group of thugs who claim to be the government, and of course they outlawed guns and collect taxes. I actually thought that was kinda cool. I was telling my wife it's the same way in real life, just on a larger scale.

I think a cross between Lost and The Hunger Games is a good way to describe it. But like I said, it's a TV show. In fact, it's sort of a guilty-pleasure adventure show. I don't think it's meant to be intellectually stimulating except for the little bit of mystery.

But it does sound like I'll dig it the same way I dug Lost.

I was a little disappointed. It looked like the leftover set from Terranova...although I do like Billy Burke and Giancarlo Esposito.

Don't think anything can fill the void Lost left, but I'm giving Revolution a shot. The big fight scene was kind of stupid.

Loved V...wanted to love Terranova but it was too utopian-ish for me. I still miss Heroes.

Maybe JJ Abrams has the clout to do a show on NBC (desperate for a hit show) with full creative control. I might give it a new shot. I didn't like Lost or Cloverfield whatsoever though
