Parents, remember: Instruct your child not to go blabbing what goes on at home outside of home, either to adults or other children. Big Brother is watching them! Teachers, pediatricians, and other professionals have a legal obligation to report any suspicion of abuse to the babysnatchers, and they are made to sit through seminars and workshops pounding this into their heads (listing "signs of abuse," the legal consequences for not reporting it, etc). Even many lay adults are terrific busybodies, and children can hardly be trusted to keep secrets.
My parents swatted me occasionally, when they couldn't get control of me otherwise. This didn't mean I wanted to be dragged out the door by a platoon of strange bureaucrats. My mother always warned me: don't go gossiping about what goes on at home or the social workers might be knocking at the door!
