That main debate will feature candidates who place in the top six nationally

The next Republican debate criteria will possibly shrink the debate stage to just six candidates, potentially pushing John Kasich and Rand Paul off the main debate stage, POLITICO has learned.
According to debate criteria that will be announced Tuesday, host Fox Business Network will consider both early-state and national poll results in deciding which candidates make the primetime forum. That main debate will feature candidates who place in the top six nationally, based on an average of the five most recent national polls recognized by Fox News, or place within the top five based on an average of the five most recent Iowa or New Hampshire state polls recognized by the network.

The polls being considered must be released prior to Monday, Jan. 11 at 6p.m. ET. and be conducted by major nationally and state recognized organizations that use standard methodological techniques, such as live interviewers and random digit-dial sampling techniques using both landlines and cell phones.
According to POLITICO calculations based on only the national polling available as of Tuesday, the primetime debate stage would include Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Marco Rubio, Dr. Ben Carson, former Gov. Jeb Bush and Gov. Chris Christie.
To qualify for the earlier undercard debate, candidates must register at least 1 percent in one of the five most recent national polls, as recognized by Fox News.
The debate will be held at the North Charleston Coliseum and Performing Arts Center in North Charleston, S.C.

So going by place, not percentage now . . . it doesn't say where Carly is ?

How will they "average" the five polls (six national polls) ?

Rand wiped the floor with Christie in the last debate. How does he qualify and Paul not?

Well it is upcoming polls by January 11 . . .
Carson may be slipping faster than anyone now that Jeb is already a solid single-digit candidate.

I'm not disheartened. Rand is only off by 1 percent from Christie in RCP average. Also, I think Rand will be polling in the top 6 in Iowa, beating Christie there. Would LOOOVVE for Carson to drop out though. C'mon doc, do the right thing.

This criteria is not that bad
Rand can crack the top 5 in Iowa.

So there is a chance he'll be in the primetime stage

Well this pretty much takes Rand out of the main debate barring any miracles.

The miracle would be honest journalism by Fox instead of their trying to drive future polling.

Has the campaign called out Fox on the above faux pas ? They still ask Rand about his poll numbers.

Time to get #LetRandDebate trending again on Twitter

If Paul polled in the top six, per this criteria, there'd be no need for armchair hashtag activism. People can tweet all they like, but the people at Fox are going to be looking at poll results, not how many people tweeted at them.

And the polls need to be averaged from the hard data - not the rounded numbers of the assorted polls. Lots of wiggle room for Fox to stage their event.

Rand is 7th nationally and 6th in Iowa. This is a criteria gerrymandering.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to limequat again.

They know it too, that's why the MSM talking point on Rand is not policy but Poll numbers. They want to really make people focus on his poll numbers. Optimistically a polling surge in Iowa could turn their talking point into a blessing.

Fox has stayed true to their red line with Huckabee and Christie last time. No way they give anyone a free pass. Not even Bush.

Rand's best chance is beating Jeb! in Iowa, but he's not even in Iowa now.
