Dean Barkley

Kinda. Actually, pretty close. I've definitely sinned politically, and need to make amends! :D

What I meant to say above is that if we start to vote, not on principle, but on who can win and whom we can defeat, we're into the lessor evil game. Might as well go McCain if he's .05% better and can win, as opposed to Barr or Baldwin, aka our conscience. That's what I've pledged to myself I won't do this year.

I think the important difference between the McCain analogy is that the anti-major party statement remains intact, loud and clear with Barkley. Completely lost with McCain.

There are differences in the degrees. I'll give you that.

I'm just being a stickler to my conscience this year. Not starting down that road. I've been there, not voting my conscience. Then I met Ron Paul. Not going back.

Chicks with principles, every man's nightmare. :D

I know, you work on 'em forever to lower their standards, then some guy like Paul comes along and it's right back to square one! Thanks a lot, Ron. ;)

LOL.

I know you're a true believer, Ken. I won't try to talk you out of voting for Barkley. There can be legitimate arguments made for doing so. But I can't do it. One reason is out of principle. The other is that I think the votes send the wrong message to the GOP.

I see your reason and can't argue with not wanting either Coleman or Franken. But I still come back to my reasons for Niemackl.

Thank you Scribbler for sticking to principle.

Okay, listening to Barkley on KTLK FM, and I have some problems with him. He said he would have voted for the bailout at first, but then changed his mind when he saw how it was spent. He also said that something needed to be done.

Talking about health care now, he says if we can't get costs under control, we have to go to a single payer system. Yes, he does say we should have competition between states. And he does say he hates the single payer system, but that's where we're going.

Sounds fine on guns.

Couldn't list anything to cut except military. That's a big flag to me.

So, no, he's not lessor enough of an evil to get my vote. That he said "something had to be done" about the economy, tells me he doesn't get the Constitution and will vote for these things if he thinks it's what has to be done. He's no different.

Edit to add that he also said we needed more regulation re: the economy.

i thought about this over the night and I don't think I can send my vote Barkley's way b/c of his stance on Abortion - even though I know it's not a federal issue, it is still treated as one and he'll have opportunity to vote as though it is... and the Afghanistan thing.....

now with Marianne's post above... nope couldn't sink to that low. There's plenty that will vote for him to give F and C a run for their money but I can't participate in that.

Yeah, yeah, Danke. I know the only person I agree with 100% is me. Ron Paul was 99.999%, so I'm spoiled now.

But I'd vote for you!

I'm getting temped to run. If Erik Paulsen doesn't win on Tuesday, ya want to help in a CD 3 campaign?

I'm with Scribbler on this one, James is definitely getting my vote. Originally, I was going to vote for Barkley because we need to get more 3rd parties in office but my conscience keeps telling me that Barkley isn't right for me. I'm voting for James.

You should definitely run! We need more Ron Paul Republicans and third party candidates for Congress in Minnesota. This year was really mediocre for House races. We have Barb Davis White in CD-5 and Ron Paul endorsed Michele Bachmann in CD-6 (who isn't really a RPR, but is supposed to be "coming around" on economic issues). In the other districts, it's my understanding that we just have the usual entrenched incumbents running against mainstream Republicans or Democrats and no third party options.

Do you know if anyone will run in CD-4 next time (where I am)? I would love for someone to rise up and challenge Betty McCollum who truly represents my views, whether they come from the GOP or elsewhere.

You should run too, Love-crafty. Talk to Ed Matthews after the election, ask him if he's planning to do it again (as a courtesy), and if not, ask for some pointers. Get him on board with you. That'd be a great start. You have a good group there in CD 4. Start a campaign committee, or "kitchen cabinet" as we used to call it.

I plan on voting for James Niemackl for all the reasons Marianne said. I also think Marianne should run. :D
