Dean Barkley

Wiki

Senator from 4 November 2002 – 3 January 2003

"During his short tenure, Barkley passed legislation establishing a memorial for Wellstone and provided the pivotal vote in clearing the final passage of the Homeland Security Act.

After leaving office, Barkley did a stint lobbying for Lorillard Tobacco Company, a casino, and the private prison industry.

Dean Barkley served as Campaign Manager for Texas Independent Gubernatorial hopeful Kinky Friedman in 2006. Prior to that position, he briefly served as a campaign consultant to Arianna Huffington in the 2003 California Recall Election.

In a June 2007 interview with Minnesota Monitor, Barkley confirmed that he had been approached by Democrats in Minnesota's 6th congressional district about a possible challenge to Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann. Barkley indicated he would consider running if the DFL would support him as an independent candidate."

He's positions are preferable to Coleman or Franken, but still has problems. James Niemackl of the constitution party is better, but has not had any traction.

Barkley has a legitimate shot at winning, especially after spanking coleman and franken in the first televised debate. I also like the fact that a third party has ballot and debate access in MN because of their strong showing in the last several elections.

At least his lobbying activities show promise. Niemackl is the better candidate if you're not into voting for a "lesser evil." That said, at least Barkley would be a cog in the wheel, at least initially, but I suspect he would buddy up to the Democrats to get on the power ladder in the Senate.

17% is almost enough to pull it off. You guys in Minnesota need to rally. I'll tell my friends in Minneapolis about him just in case they don't already know. donchakno

the homeland security thing is ridiculous as is the unconstitutional memorial for wellstone but... he appears to be the only one talking about debt :/

He was part of the Ventura campaign for Governor back in the day. More power to him... break the chains of the two party dictatorship

Barkley is a pretty good candidate... unfortunately he wants more troops in Afghanistan..
That's a big turnoff to me, but most of his other positions are good.

Barkley is somewhere between a moderate Democrat and a RINO. Wouldn't know Liberty if it bit him on his . . . whatever.

What's this fascination with voting for more of the same lately? Some Paulians in MN are out there helping McCain. This all has been giving me ulcers and migraines, especially coming on the heels of the bailout.

Barkley is currently trying to raise an additional $40,000 to run TV ads in the last week. Anyone here who supports him ought to donate at his website. He isn't perfect, but is a far lesser evil than both Coleman and Franken. In the last debate, he sounded exactly like Ron Paul when he talked about the many bases around the world and the drain our empire creates on our economy. He's a longshot, but he does have a chance here, unlike most third party candidates for Congress.

I need your help to raise $65,000 by 6:00 pm Tuesday to produce and run this ad to a full statewide audience. The good news is that we’ve already raised $25,000 of this, but you are the critical link to help us get the rest of the way there.

He was on AJ today. If you would like to hear him, go to prisonplanet.com and click listen live.

He supports the 2nd amendment, recognizes that the NAU and the NWO do exist and are not some "outlandish conspiracy theory", wants to abolish the Federal Reserve, and understands that we have a one party system.

I liked what he had to say. He also mentioned Ron Paul.

Buck the system.

He is speaking now on the re-stream.

AJ said he supporting him b/c he has issues that are close to Ron Paul's and his opponents both suck bad-Called Franken a socialist. Ventura also supports him, and said he would had never been governor if it weren't for Barkley.

AJ- "Ron Paul has called for criminal indictments of the Fed, what would you do?"

Barkely: "I would put an end to it, and would investigate. Heads should roll" (paraphrase)

Barkley said he has not taken one dime from Wall Street.
