David Trott (Primary Challenger to Bentivolio) Announces Significant Fundraising Haul ($425K)

He hasn't been all that bad. But the vote to raise the debt ceiling was just over the line.

It doesn't help that he is goofy as hell. It seems really unlikely that he keeps that seat.

Raising that kind of money at the drop of a hat will clearly spell him out as a corporate candidate. No random House candidate raises that in one month especially as a challenger to an incumbent. Can't wait for Open Secrets to spell it out for us.

In the mind of Kerry, I think he believes he's giving back to the liberty movement by talking about goofy things like chemtrails. He's mistaken.

So much for Boehner and Cantor helping Bentivolio out for being an establishment "team player" on a couple of key early votes.

That is most certainly the case, but Kerry has misplayed his cards in several instances and damaged his liberty credentials. I'll give Kerry some free advice worth more than any political consultant could give him: If you want to be reelected to Congress become Justin Amash's and Thomas Massie's shadow the next 12 months. Period.

Hopefully he'll do that. We can give him (moral) support against his challenger if he does.

This upcoming primary fight is what Kerry really needs to fully get his head out of his ass and come to terms with why it's so important to be a hardened supporter of liberty all the time w/o wavering or offering excuses. Trott is worse than McCotter if you can believe that, so me and mine will be hitting the pavement for Kerry cause there's no sense in trading an ~80% for a 60% w/o a fight. Trott would be like another Rogers or Cotton in the House and would own this seat forever. Think about that before you write this one off.

I'm of the opinion that Bentivolio is going to be better then the establishment guy....but it's still hard to get over what feels like an absolute betrayal. With a 62% freedomworks score the guys hardly even a conservative, though far better then all the establishment guys with ratings in the 40's. His time in office has been very disappointing.

Except, I doubt FW monitors many votes on civil liberties or foreign policy where KB has redeemed himself a little. Not to make excuses but he's tied w/ Chaffetz and one vote under Labrador. The score card rates 13 votes and they're all domestic spending related.

I'm pragmatic like you are. I think that is the way we win this thing, by using incrementalism and spreading our ideas via the political bully pulpit. It's not as sexy as a revolution, but it's how progressives took control of this country over the past 100 years. Socialism is such an anathema to the human condition that it takes much longer to take hold and eventually breakdown. Liberty on the other hand takes root quickly and spreads infectiously. I firmly believe we can turn this country around in a fraction of the time it took the progressives to destroy it.

I welcome any candidate that moves liberty down the field, even if its only a few inches, they have a role to play at this critical juncture. We can always replace that 80% with a 99% or the next Ron Paul incarnate down the road. I have a feeling though that those 80% people would get the message very quickly and bend the knee to the liberty movement once we add a few more notches to our belt. 2014 should be our time to shine and kick this into overdrive.

I would certainly vote for Bentivolio and campaign for him if I lived in his district. My biggest fear is that he so damaged himself with the liberty movement that donations simply dry up. He has to work to rectify that relationship. The good news is that there's some very simply things he could do to get the ball rolling; he could start attending those Conversation with Conservatives meetings that members from the House do from time to time. Amash and Massie are regular attendees, why can't Kerry get his butt there? I'm not expecting him to give oratory like Cicero, hell I don't even care if he talks at all, just attend and be a sponge for good ideas.

I do not disagree with that at all. At least Bentivolio has the civil liberty votes in is favor. Trott will vote to increase the debt ceiling *and* keep the NSA in our email conversations.
