Just days after defeating Eric Cantor in a historic primary battle, Congressional hopeful Dave Brat announced he is replacing his 23-year-old campaign manager with a veteran of the 2010 Cantor campaign.

Amanda Chase served as Cantor's political director during the 2010 congressional campaign, as well as state political director for Virginia Lieutenant Governor candidate Susan Stimpson.

Brat made the announcement at his first news conference since his primary win, but notably absent at Thursday's event, no questions from reporters. The candidate said he is still in a transition phase, offering no timeframe on when he will take questions on specific policy positions.

"I appreciate your patience as we transition from a campaign that many had ignored, to one that seems to have captured the nation's attention," Brat said outside his Glen Allen campaign headquarters.

So... Brat replaced a guy who was a part of a campaign that barely spent anything and defeated an incumbent who spent millions with the former campaign manager of the guy he just defeated?

That... doesn't make sense to me.

I think it's a smart move - he unexpectedly won the primary, now bring in someone who has ran successful state-wide general election campaigns.

He can keep whatever team he had before, but now he has more money to spend on someone to groom them.

Worked out for Rand Paul.

Randal replaced the campaign manager with somebody he knew, trusted and was family, not his previous opponents campaign manager.
I don't think it is an apt comparison. With that said, I'm not sure this is a bad thing. I assume his primary campaign manager will still be involved.

Well, it says but she worked for Cantor in 2010, so she hasn't been with Cantor for two election cycles. I wonder who she supported this time around? Maybe she voted for Brat?

The voice of reason. Zachary Werrell did a very good job... in the primary. You need a more experienced campaign manager and a different strategy for the general election. This is basically the same think Rand Paul did four years ago.

I don't think you "need" to do that. Werrell ran the best campaign I've seen from a Republican candidate in a long, long time, and the message was perfectly suited for a general electorate audience so its not like they even have to "tack back to the center" on anything either. If he were facing a tough general election campaing, Werrell would probably be the best choice for the job.

I assume Brat's thinking is that since the district is so Republican, he doesn't really have to run a "great" or even a particularly "good" campaign in the general to win. A boring, uninspired, paint by the numbers campaign should be enough to win so he's going with the person more suited to that sort of campaign.

Stimpson was the best of the bunch in that race (7 candidates).

Maybe it's just a ceremonial replacement to get general election backing? I do understand why he would want a "seasoned operative" at the helm when fundraising instead of Werrell. Just tell me that Werrell is still a BIG part of the team and wasn't just booted to the curb.

An article about Werrell:

Zachary Werrell helped guide Dave Brat to one of the biggest political upsets in American history, with*Brat stunning Washington by ousting House Majority Leader Eric Cantor*in a primary last week, reports CBS News' Chip Reid.

Brat, a Tea Party favorite,*has since hired a new campaign manager. After many grueling 20-hour days, the 23-year-old campaign whiz who lost 25 pounds during the primary campaign said he simply needed a break.

GUYS THIS IS JUST FINE

Now that I've got your attention, you should first find out who Susan Stimpson is. She's basically the single best liberty Republican in Virginia, possibly excepting Chris Stearns. She's got a real record of cutting government and taxes and is fully on board with us.

I also know her personally.

There is NOTHING TO FEAR in Amanda Chase being Brat's campaign manager.

Remember, in 2010 Cantor appeared to be a genuine conservative - it's only in the time since that he proved himself otherwise.
