http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/5/31/737260/-Hey-Democrats:-WAKE-UP!!!!

Is it just me, or do Democrats already seem fat and happy with their majority? I know 2010 looks great for us in the Senate (and a bit more difficult in the House), but this is no time to rest on our laurels.

Meanwhile, the Republican base is energized and united. Sure, it's a shrinking base (only 21-25% of the country) but remember: lower turnout elections (like the Governor's races in VA and NJ and the midterm elections in 2010) can be won by turning out your base. I haven't seen the GOP base this energized since right after 9-11.

Yes, the teaparties were a joke. The message was a joke, the attendees tended towards the mentally ill, and the turnout was best described as "light to moderate". However, it should still worry Democrats that all of these nutjobs are participating in civic events and becoming more active in politics. Their energy and anger should also worry us. Midterms/off year elections are about energy and excitement.

Also, we're apparently racists.

50%: Die hard Republicans subconsciously channeling their latent racism in an unrelated direction.
40%: Unafiliated white Ron Paul types who were disenchanted with Bush.
10%: PUMA crazies (99% of this demographic is mentally ill).

But they see us as a threat:
This 40% of unaffiliated voters (some of them voted for Perot) is something to worry about...when a segment of the population becomes politically active, energized, and uniformly angry (towards one party), that's a bad sign for that party.

anyone who labels people by the color of their skin is "racist"
Daily Kos is racist.

" If the repubs regain strength it... will be because the demos were too hesitant and tentative to govern.
"

EWWWw. people think this way?

Anyone notice liberal groups recognizing the growing power of the Paulite wing of the Republican Party?

I think that the stronger we get the more momentum turns our way. Once we are seen as essential in the Big Tent by the Republicans, we can count on more funding and stronger races. The key is sticking to our principles but being able to work inside a party with those who disagree.

It's outrageous that they would make such a comment about Ron Paul supporters. How treacherous and dishonest of them.

Well, good. Once the Democrats mention often enough how much power we hold, maybe the Republican rank and file will realize it and team up with us to win. They might even figure out why the G.O.P. power brokers would rather lose than team up with us, and why...

ron paul & dennis kucinich wanted to impeach george w. bush and ms. pelosi
was slow to warm up to the idea as poor teddy kennedy had his health issues...

Characterizing Ron Paul enthusiasts as racist and 'disenchanted whites' is about as accurate as describing all of Daily Kos writers as CIA infantrymen. They're obviously not smart political strategists because more than 98% of the U.S. population was 'disenchanted' during the Bush years. Make that 98% of the world.

Their just pissed off cause they didn't back a movement but a candidate, and pretty soon those daily kos guys are not gonna see any power. The silent majority is beginning to rise up and the libertarian movement is the only thing that's accessible and flourishing right now. If they were smart, those daily kos types would have backed Nader in the 2000 and 2004 elections, but their not the visionary types. All the visionaries are in the libertarian/ron paul camp.

Liberals sure do love rhetoric, it gets them excited.

And it can assure their sense of being in the right, since their opponents are obviously both retarded reactionaries and evil extremists.

You are making some valid points, but Markos (the founder of Daily Kos) is one of the brightest political minds out there. The guy just gets it (not ideologically, but tactically). I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss his expertise.
