CSPAN Live - Bailout Commentary Thread

OMG!!! Edward Markey with another "it's not perfect, but we have to do it." "Our very form of capitalism is under assault, vote yes to protect the citizens of our country."

Ya, and your the one carrying on the assault!

Fear...ahhh

"In politics, what begins in fear usually ends in folly." - Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Barney Frank: "If we didn't have discrimination, I wouldn't be here. How about something for the poor people."

In Favor

Rep. Barney Frank now saying this is to help the poor people, and "To be honest" he thinks about the poor people when voting for this. What a bastard, he who made so much money off of fannie and freddie.

Please don't out this bill to end foreclosures just because you don't like anything else about it.

Oh God Barney......

Jon Boehner: "Now one wants to vote for this, no one wants to be anywhere around this bill, but we have a bill that may work."

Same old, "The risk in not acting is much worse than the risk of acting" He said, "I didn't come here to vote for bills like this, but this is the one that seperates the men from the women." That seemed a little sexist.

Lol, I think he said men from the boys.

I'm not scared Mr. Boehner. My eyes are open.

"the people are scared. nobody wants to vote for this. I don't want to be around it.... it's bi-partisan..... So we have an imperfect product. a product at may work... if we can get the votes for it. which is in serious doubt. everybody think about where we are. THINK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS IF WE DON"T PASS THIS BILL.

job loss. homeless retired people. brink of economic disaster. the risk in not acting much higher than the risk in acting. this bill is awful but we must do OUR JOB. "

(??????? uphold the constitution much JOHN??????)

Steny Hoyer:

"We swore an oath to protect the constitution and the people"

"Why should tax payers loan out their own money to rescue the greedy?" Answer: "Because we are all in this together."

Since most days are not like today I guess we just throw the constitution away.

thats what americans want us to do???????????????????? and exactly what was the ratio of yes to no calls you got there?

please. liar.

I can't stand the techniques that are used by people for the bill. The- " act now to save america or do nothing" argument. Most people against the bill actually have better intentions than doing "nothing". They know that it's not wise to bailout unless the root cause for the problem is solved. They know that the majority of americans smell bullshit and are not willing to just dish out more money. These congressmen against the bill in my view are the brave ones who are standing their ground and are wanting to find the right answer. Not just rush to pass the bill. So it bothers me everytime when the ones voting for the bill act like this is the only way....and that people wanting to try something else somehow translates to doing nothing.

How can credit be drying up when the FED is extending credit to everyone?

Every vote the last eight years involved saving america. Every new spending bill led to this problem. Every time they voted not to address this issue and issues involving Fannie Mae was a "vote to save America or do nothing."

Steny Hoyer: "We made clear that this congress does not write blank checks."

Talk about out of touch.

I'm sure you're right Primbs. While I've always been interested in politics, I never followed it as close as I am trying to do now. I just started watching Cspan last week and today was my first time seeing them "debate" a bill. And the techniques just make me shake my head.
