Realistically , by campaign time , she will likely not be able to speak publicly well if at all. Which would put her in a position not to really be qualified to fill the presidency if needed . Being a friend of Rahm would not be seen as a good thing by moderates , independants . I also do not think it would guarantee New Mexico .

I would too, **IF I didn't totally hate many of her policies.** I feel like I shouldn't have any liking for this congresswoman because her stances on many things are so bad in my opinion. But her story, despite all of the glurge and rah-rah-rahing (I HATED the memorial ceremony, which wound up looking more like a rally), does have me interested in how she is doing. Meh, for once my ignorance rears its ugly, hypocritical head. :\

But yeah, unless she totally changed her stances on many issues, I would never vote for her.

No way. It would be too clever by half. Everyone would see the transparently cynical ploy at work. It would backfire worse than McCain picking Palin. They would be unable to deny that the only thing she did to deserve the nomination is get shot and live. Plus there's the inherent implication that Obama made the wrong choice by selecting Biden in 2008.

Now, assuming she makes a reasonably complete recovery (and let's hope she does), she does probably have a brighter future in politics than she would have otherwise. But that means she's got a better shot (no pun intended) at taking a step up to Governor or Senator, not being nominated as Obama's running mate in 2012.

This is all assuming she even will be able (again, let's hope so), and that she wishes to continue a career in politics (unknowable at this stage).

let's not forget the sheep in NH-and NH is probably the most politically aware state, thought McCain was anti-war. the MSM would never focus on the issues, just the story. plus Giffords is fluent in Spanish. so why pick Hillary when you have Giffords. ?
