Cop Loses Badge Over YouTube Video That Shows Him Body-Checking Bicyclist

If you are at someone else's house for a party, and their dog attacks you, it doesn't matter if it's their property, you have every right to defend yourself from the dog, even if it means killing it.

Unless the dog happens to be a police officer.

I don't think I'll ever understand how any animal could have the same rights as, or more, than a human.

I feel the same way, although I don't know if the dog was doing any lunging in this case.

How do you feel about police dogs?

I know somebody who is currently serving time for killing a police dog. He didn't commit any crime, but a dog was released on him. He ran, because a big fucking dog was chasing him. The dog got his arm. He stabbed it with the screwdriver that was in his other hand, and killed it. I don't blame him a bit... I most likely would have done the same thing. When there's a dog trying to rip your arm off it's just instinct to defend yourself.

The only crime he was charged with was killing a police officer. I don't know if it's the same everywhere, but here killing a police dog is considered the same as killing a police officer. I think that's bullshit... it's a dog.

I know of somebody else who was almost killed by a police dog. An alarm went off at night at the building she worked at. She was called to the building because she had a key, and was to let the police in to check it out. She unlocked the doors, and it appeared to be a false alarm, so she used the building's phone to call her husband and let them know what was going on.

A police on the other side of the building released a dog. The dog attacked her, and did some major damage before the police caught up to it and called it off. She was rushed to the emergency room, had some major surgery, and got over 600 stitches from the bites all over her body. She was offered some major hush money, she took it, and it never made the news.

You can train a dog as much as you want, but that doesn't make it a police officer... it's still just an animal.

Damn. That sucks to be both those people. And I agree that a police dog is a dog and should be treated as such. Killing one should not be the same crime as killing a human being.

But guess what? A crime was not committed by the woman or her dog in this situation. If a stranger unexpectedly ventures on my property and gets bitten by my dog the dog is just protecting my property. It is unfortunate that the person was bitten. But it seems pretty clear that the officer was acting as judge, jury and executioner. Was he going on the person's property to interview the dog or measure the size of his jaws? Give yourself a break.

All the real-life experiences you referenced happened at least 20 years ago, since you say they happened while you were a teen and you say you are 40.

That's to be expected.

20 years ago, police could do a lot more than they could now, and get away with it.

That's what I find terribly ironic, people here call for the "good old days" where there was "no police abuse", but the reality is, back then, police abused their powers much more and could get away with it. Another officer told me the story of this one cop, who's now deceased, who made it a game beating up black people for fun back in the 70's. He could get away with it, his department didn't even care, fact the chief probably even encouraged it. Wouldn't be surprised if he also sold drugs, just like the example you gave.

Stuff like that just wouldn't fly today.

If you people think "police brutality" is so bad now, it was a lot worse "back then" in the "good ol days" that you long for so much.

Heck let's go even further back, to long long ago... police back in ancient rome impaled people with a spear just for looking at them funny.

I would say we have come quite a way as far police abuse goes. Moving towards a police state? No, sorry tin-foil-hat brigade, we are moving farther and farther from it.

So you're saying the we should be thankful for police brutality as it exists today? Why am I not suprised?

I feel the same way, although I don't know if the dog was doing any lunging in this case.

How do you feel about police dogs?

I'm 50/50 on that one. I haven't worked K9 yet and have no plans, I'm not really an animal person.

You are correct, police dogs are considered to be officers themselves, and killing them is a felony, just as killing a police officer is. Usually when they die, they also have a ceremony just like a fallen officer would have. There is a great deal of respect for police dogs, and their handlers in the K9 unit look at their dogs like family. Countless number of times, the police dogs have saved the lives of the officers, even many times giving their own life for their human companions. And they do it out of pure love and compassion, not because that is how they are trained.

However, personally, and other cops would be agitated at me for saying this, but at the end of the day they are still dogs. I don't really think they should be legally considered officers and carry the same penalties. Ceremony for the fallen police dog, that's still fine. But sending someone to prison for life for killing a police dog? Sorry I'm just not an animal person and this is my opinion.

So I'm 50/50.

Wow. What color is the sky in your world?

You guys wear black thug outfits instead of nice uniforms because??? Because you are supposed to make people afraid of you, as you are trained.

That has to be the most naive comment I have ever heard. Pardon me, I didn't know my department is exactly the same as the one near you. In fact, out of the 50 some police departments in my county, I'm pretty sure mine and two others are the only ones that wear black uniforms. The rest wear brown ones, and the state police wear gray.

Example:

Sure, you can make up some sort of weird tin foil conspiracy theory that we wear black to strike fear into you... or maybe you think we just wear them because they look neat and professional? There's a reason why black is the most popular color for suits, shoes, and classy vehicles. You've never heard the term "... is the new black." ? What were you born yesterday son?

But the police have M4 automatic assault weapons? WHY?

Because the bad guys have them. What would you have me do, bring a knife to a gun fight? You probably would, you would like to see a cop die.

For your information, I also do not have an M4 rifle. I do know that many areas of southern california, their officers carry them, LAPD and such. It's because there are many gangs and the gang members are all equipped with ak-47's.

You might be mentally unstable son, but I'm not. I just know it's not wise trying to use a glock on someone that has an ak-47.

They have a bradley assault vehicle? WHY?

We do? I didn't get the memo. Sounds cool, can't wait to drive it.

They have multiple aircraft with thermo and other spectrum scanners so they can see in your house? WHY?

Well you see, when someone is running from us, especially someone who just committed murder, we want to find them. They know they can't outrun us, they they like to do something... it's called hide. You know, it would be a little bit too time consuming to search every single house in a 300+ house neighborhood looking for the criminal... you know, much easier and cost effective to use technology. But I guess that never crossed your mind.

We could just unlease our dogs and let them find the bad guy and tear him to shreds, like we used to, but you would probably complain about that too.

They have the cop dogs go through the school parking lots and hallways everyday without cause or reason? WHY?

Drug sniffer... you know, dogs have good noses.. can smell things we can't smell. I learned that in elementary school, obviously you never went.

They set up road blocks on "high risk" dates, such as EVERY holiday, and stop and search whoever they want? WHY?

To save lives. You know, if we didn't do that, you would be complaining that we aren't doing our job.

Just can't win, can we?

Wake up man, wake up.

Go back to school.

LOL what's with this trollcop and his condescending use of the word "son" ?

Pffft, but seriously..thanks for protecting and serving officer.

Copthatsupportsronpaul is the single biggest troll Ive seen in months. I cant believe yall are arguing with him over a blatant case of police brutality. Either he's just another new-age Gestapo fucktard with a gun and badge or he's trying to get a rise out of you.

And that story about the cop walking up a shooting a dog point blank in the yard? Wow. That officer better feel lucky he shot the dog of someone that sends a letter to the editor instead of someone that loads a mag. Shoot my dog like that and Ill take the charge for killing that piece of shit pig.

Sure, you can make up some sort of weird tin foil conspiracy theory

Now he's getting down on people who wear tinfoil hats! Where does it end?

What if me and my family are out for a stroll, wearing our tinfoil hats? Are we supposed to start looking over our shoulders now supercop?

LOOK OUT PEOPLE IN BASEBALL CAPS, YOU ARE NEXT!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH!!!!!!!!!

And that story about the cop walking up a shooting a dog point blank in the yard?

Did you bother to read the article? The officer was entering the yard and the dog lunged at him in attack mode. Was the officer supposed to just sit there and let the dog tear him to shreds? You will probably reply "yes", based on your comment that "pigs" should die.

Would you do the same, just sit there and do nothing while the dog rips you to pieces?

Do you even think things through before you write them?

heh I'm not a troll, but I sure am getting a good laugh out of this. You sillies make it out like the officer just randomly strolled into someone's yard and executed their dog for no reason. What's next, the officer cooked the dog on a BBQ?

Jeeze. ;-) Can't be more objective than that.

What's next, the officer cooked the dog on a BBQ?

Don't look now, but in another thread, it says just that. An officer on a horse in fact. Although from the available information, it's not clear whether these were canines or packaged hot dogs from the supermarket.

Do you guys by any chance have a mounted barbecue battalion? I mean, these could be completely unrelated incidents.

... Countless number of times, the police dogs have saved the lives of the officers, even many times giving their own life for their human companions. And they do it out of pure love and compassion, not because that is how they are trained...

BS - they are dogs, and unless you are having discussions with them at the donut shop, you have no idea why they do what they do, As far as scientific explanations, regarding the instincts of a pack animal; it is not done out of "love and compassion" it is survival instinct and genetic make-up.

BTW- you sound like a doe-eyed hippie above, boy.

That has to be the most naive comment I have ever heard.

Rudy???

Sure, you can make up some sort of weird tin foil conspiracy theory that we wear black to strike fear into you... or maybe you think we just wear them because they look neat and professional?

You are acting like the most naive supporter here, little man. And I look forward to banning you. I can at any time, just because... .buahhahhahhahha. I've just been watching to see if you had any redeeming qualities. Unfortunately...

Because the bad guys have them. What would you have me do, bring a knife to a gun fight? You probably would, you would like to see a cop die.
Nice, putting words in people mouths with mis-informational propoganda. You really are a piece of work, boy.

Above is a great example of the tinfoil hattish fantasy land this child lives in.

ALL gang members do not have AKs, in fact ALL gang members do not have guns. WAKE UP!!!

You might be mentally unstable son, but I'm not. I just know it's not wise trying to use a glock on someone that has an ak-47.
Well, since you never know what a criminal might be packing, what do you carry? or do you just run away like a coward if you see a man with a bigger gun than you. You have definitely shown the cowardice characteristic on this forum, boy.

Well you see, when someone is running from us, especially someone who just committed murder, we want to find them. They know they can't outrun us, they they like to do something... it's called hide. Oh, so you make judgment calls on who you will chase based on assumptions of guilt. Sounds discriminatory to me. I would think it is your job to chase suspected criminals whether someone stole a candy bar from a baby, or murdered an official in cold blood. What you have described above is neither impartial, nor constitutional.

Also, you are suggesting that it is OK to invade the privacy of the innocent for the good of the state. This is against the 4th amendment and the warnings of Ben Franklin.

"Those who will sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither"

Did you bother to read the article? The officer was entering the yard and the dog lunged at him in attack mode. Was the officer supposed to just sit there and let the dog tear him to shreds? You will probably reply "yes", based on your comment that "pigs" should die.

I am wondering the same thing about you. I would like you to back up your accusation that a poster said "pigs should die". If you don't, I will ban you.

Muwahahhhahahha

Put up, or shut up, boy!

You're a funny guy. We're supposed to believe that the guys who are more heavily armed than they were 20 years ago are actually a kinder, gentler police force? Despite the fact that their training methods are now designed to imitate the military, instead of the peace officers of yesteryear?

That ancient Rome analogy seems to hold a lot truer today than it did when I was a kid.

And there's certainly a lot more apologists now than there were. Somehow cops have decided they aren't servants any more, they're heros, and it's a crime not to worship them.

No doubt about it in my mind - cops are bullies who were too stupid to make it through college.

Perhaps the officer should have knocked on the front door and presented a warrant. That is what the police used to do. Police officers used to also understand that people were innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Dogs protect their masters and their turf. You of all people should know that. What are you implying here? That, people, even innocent people, need to understand that their dogs might be murdered by power-happy police at any time. Even on their own property?

From looking at your posts, you seem to have forgotten something. You SERVE the people; you don't rule the people. I don't hate cops, but you should know that your posts have not helped your case one bit. You appear to be standing up for another police officer's bad behavior and that is very disheartening to say the least.

You say you're for Ron Paul, but I can't see why from your posts. You apparently advocate breaking the 4th amendment, thinking it is quite fine to spy into people's houses, just to make your job easier. Don't you understand that is totally against the Constitution? While it may make your job easier, don't you understand how moving in this direction is dangerous for our country. I understand that the gangs are horrible in California. But instead of going along with trashing the Constitution, why not fight to stop the illegal immigration that caused a lot of these gangs to come into our country? You are an American. Please act like it.

So, when cops injure civilian dogs, dogs are mere property. But when civilians injure police dogs, dogs are police officers.

The cops are indeed predatory pack animals, so that actually makes sense.

Why Mike would make a terrible policeman :
