Look, people, we aren't the enemies of cops and they aren't our enemies either. Most cops just want to get the bad guys, and most of us want them to. If there's any beef either side has, it's with the governments--federal, state and local--that keep passing terrible laws and making the legal code such a tangle that we are placed at odds with each other even though the civilians are doing no one harm and don't feel the need to be hassled and the police know there's no victim and would rather be chasing someone more worth removing from civilized society. But cops can't cherry pick the laws. They will use what laws they can to check people out in hopes of getting their paws on a murderer or rapist, etc., and who can blame them if they resent being told they can't use useful tools to do it? And civilians will use what rights they still have, if only to ensure that their children can also.

No, I don't expect angelatc would hate to see a cop if she were just the victim of a hit-and-run and saw that an officer witnessed it and was giving chase. And no, I don't for a second believe angelatc is a drain--or "human leech"--on society. Why are we letting those rich bastards drive these wedges betwixt us? Don't we see how counter-productive that is?

but I disagree on the last part. No, angelatc fits a stereotype I see all the time. The type of person that calls police and expects them to be there every time they see something even remotely suspicious, but at the same time publicly bashes police and says they hate police... So typical.

There's a very liberal woman around here that is an activist and is known to be very, very anti-police. One day she needed dire help and called the police, she saw someone breaking into her car. They helped her, arrested the man. Right afterwords, she thanked them and was so grateful and was telling the officers how great they were.

The next day, what does she do? Goes back to bashing police on the evening news.

This is an example of a cop on a power trip. Cops in NYC have a hard on for critical mass, for some reason. If they get wind of a critical mass event they've been known to confiscate all bikes on their route, whether the biker is a part of the group or not.

But people need to remember that not all cops are bad, attributing the actions of this guy to everyone that wears a badge is just an example of collectivism and Ron Paul would disagree with that :)

There are some really great cops out there that deserve a lot of respect.
 
I hear people say on this forum that there are "good cops." That is a true statement. However, we are not discussing the ones who are generally decent human beings. The problem has more to do with the many corrupt ones who have always been part of the system. And that leads me to focus on our corrupt law enforcement system - which clearly encourages criminal behavior by its officers.
I heard one commentator say that there must be something else to the story behind the officer who slugged the biker. But here is the source of the problem. It is the perception by police officers that the one being arrested may have done something wrong -either in the past (I have heard countless officers make comments such as: "He probably got away with something in the past anyway") or the present (which has been the opininion of some in this forum as well). But the actual evidence shows that the biker did nothing wrong and the officer did everything wrong.
The actions of corrupt officers often have very little to do with the facts or evidence at hand.
I work as a social worker with individuals who are homeless. I have had many clients who have been beaten down by officers - and then not arrested for any crimes. One client in particular was sleeping on a park bench one night (shelters are not necessarily safer environments in Chicago) and was awakened by the lights of a police vehicle rolling up. Without any words exchanged (and my client just awaking from a deep sleep), the officerpepper sprayed him and then walked away. Now is the behavior of this particular officer in any way rational? Hell no. Are the actions of any fascist system rational? Hello no. It is all about power and control.
So we can talk all day about the "good" cops while forgetting that the criminal justice system is run by a criminal government. I for one choose to not support this criminal government by downplaying its many negative characteristics.
 
Here is another example... How many people on this forum are truly for the legalization of all drugs (not just marijuana)?
If you do not support the legalization of all drugs in our society I don't understand how you can honestly call yourself a libertarian. The war on drugs is one of the key examples of the state controlling our lives.

Ron Paul considers himself a libertarian conservative IIRC.

That chart, if I'm reading it right, has McCain as being more conservative than Paul... that just can't be accurate at all. McCain is a flaming liberal.

True, it would seem that when the video begins the guy is resisting. So totally don't resist like that. Such a bad idea.
