Congressman Massie's license plate is kind of amazing.

I don't get the irony. Wouldn't it be charged by coal power late in the night back there? That or nuclear.

Electric cars burn coal, indirectly.> Kentucky produces coal, about one percent of it's economy.> Massie is a U.S. Representative from Kentucky. That's my guess.

Yeah but Massie has a huge solar panel array on his house. He doesn't use coal.

Republicans generally don't like the idea of electric cars but do like the idea of coal. Democrats like the idea of electric cars but don't like the idea of coal.

I don't know if it's properly called irony or pointing out some hypocrisy but that is what I read into it.

I just don't see the appeal of an all-electric car. The styling is nice, I really like the front even it looks like a cross between a Jaguar XK and Ford Fusion.

Still, internal combustion > electric car. There's a reason why no electric car can survive without massive government subsidies.

Never purchasing gas is very appealing to me.

You prefer the idea of charging your car for 12 hours after driving 150 miles?

No thanks.

I probably drive around 150 - 200 miles in a month, on average. Plugging in a car 2 - 3 times per week would definitely be worth saving $50/mo. With my driving, it would be perfect.

Which electric vehicles have you test driven?

I've driven the Tesla Model S and the Nissan Leaf (what a piece of shit that car is). I don't like either of them, although I will say the Tesla is a very well built car.

I got 28 seconds into that video.

I don't want to hear the birds and the ocean! I want to hear the roar of my V8!

I love the idea that it's nearly silent and can blow away a Ferrari.

Plus the videos bring up some interesting considerations. Mostly the second one.

It can't blow away a Ferrari, though.

Tesla Roadster vs Ferrari 458

0-60mph
Tesla: 3.7 seconds
Ferrari: 3.0 seconds

Top Speed
Tesla: 131.7 mph
Ferrari: 202 mph

1/4 mile:
Tesla: 12.6 sec
Ferrari: 11.0 seconds

Top Gear Track (I realize this test isn't very scientific)
Tesla: 1:27.30
Ferrari: 1:19.10

Don't they have sound effects now?

Where it is an electric car but it plays the sound of an engine revving up depending on speed.

I don't know where I was reading about that at.

I know by law electric cars must add some fake engine noise due to safety regulations (for pedestrians).

It's still not the same. An artificial engine noise coming out of your speakers is never going to be the same as the roar and vibrations from an internal combustion engine.

True.

I've never driven one myself but wouldn't care to own one. The idea of being fried crispy trying to change a battery doesn't appeal to me. I like something I can work on. The less sensors the better. And for God's sake I could scrap a car that continuously bings when someone isn't wearing a seat belt. That's probably my biggest pet peeve with newer cars. That and they have to be in park to open the car doors.

The seatbelt sensor is really annoying, but I wouldn't think those would be hard to disable.
