I would say that's just Ron being a politician/"peace maker". I wouldn't tell the truth about MLK if I wanted to be a Republican either. Read the links I gave you. And yes, it is definitely cherry picking of Ron to say that-just as it would be cherry picking to say Marx was a Lockean because he believed in the Labor Theory Of Value.
You don't think that Ron is full of shit when he says he looks to MLK for guidance on civil disobedience and self-government do you? Do you realize the source and context for this statement was him discussing philosophy with someone who was discovering Rothbard and anarcho-capitalism and not a general audience of Fox anchors and "sheeple" right? So, if I read you correctly, you think Dr. Paul is lying somehow about MLK in this statement? I am not sure what you find inherently wrong with cherry picking, but if I cherry pick a sound principle and point out that what someone is saying is true even if it is out of character, and I choose to adopt the success of that, how would you consider that a failure?
