We're going to have a conference call to see if we can smooth out some rough spots and get this thing moving forward.

This will be a totally open-mike conference. Primarily, we need to discuss paperwork and filing for the four key states with 2011 elections.

I am very much aware that a Sunday night call may not fit every schedule perfectly. However, I'm sure we'll have plenty of calls in the future and we can work to find a time that will work for as many people as possible. I'm willing to move the time around up or down, but will do so no later than this Thursday. I want to make sure we have enough time to prepare and won't move the time without enough notice.

Does someone involved have experience in setting up or maintaining a PAC - or is this a learning experience for everyone? I think it would be a great idea to have Josh and someone knowledgeable about PACs speak up first to - for Josh, describe what he's trying to do and for the other person, explain what all's involved in setting up a PAC, the general pros & cons, and what the costs of maintaining a PAC would be. I think it would be wise to spend a good deal of time simply determining if a truly unique (and what will make us unique, specifically?) PAC for us is a good option.

I'll likely be leading the call, if only because I've been doing much of the legwork on it - specifically, reading and researching state campaign finance laws. I think I know to a large extent what we're going to need to accomplish and the time frame we have for doing so.

It would be wonderful to have someone who is experienced in the planning stages of a PAC, and if there's anyone like that around, I certainly want them there and want them to advise us quite a bit on aspects that we might be neglecting.

I think a PAC is a viable option IF we can get enough candidates to make it worth everyone's time. I alluded to this in the "principles" thread - between the volunteers needed, the work necessary to find these candidates and vet them, the paperwork involved in every state, and the legal compliance side....I think it's really a stretch to say it's worthwhile to do all of this work in order to support 10 candidates who are all from the forums. The viability aspect can be touched upon in the call, but I have no doubt that the PAC can be viable - it just depends on exactly what we want it to accomplish.
 
I'm contemplating whether or not to invite some prominent people from beyond the scope of the forums. It might be best to organize a bit before we start outreach. We obviously have a lot of clarification and structuring to do in the immediate short-term.
