Newt Gingrich on Guns: A Mixed Record
Prior to the “Republican Revolution” of 1994, Rep. Newt Gingrich of Georgia had earned an A rating with Gun Owners of America. But that all changed in 1995, after Republicans were swept to power and Gingrich became Speaker of the House.

The Republicans gained the majority, thanks in large part to gun owners outraged by the Clinton gun ban. And upon taking the reins of the House, Speaker Gingrich said famously that, “As long as I am Speaker of this House, no gun control legislation is going to move in committee or on the floor of this House and there will be no further erosion of their rights.”

His promise didn’t hold up, however, and his GOA rating quickly dropped to well below the “C-level.” In 1996, the Republican-led Congress passed the “gun free school zones act,” creating criminal safe zones like Virginia Tech, where the only person armed was a murderous criminal. Speaker Newt Gingrich voted for the bill containing this ban...

Interesting 1991 article

Here is some more interesting insight into Newt Gingrich that I found in this article from 1991.

Lots of his own staff members have turned their backs on him because of his "amoral" personality.
"He makes the rest of us seem kinder and gentler, and I suppose there's something to be said for that," says Rep. Fred Grandy. Fellow Iowa Republican Jim Leach isn't so sure. "I shudder," he mutters "at the thought that people judge the Republican Party by him."

Gingrich's tactics have also alienated legions of onetime supporters, many of whom become embroiled in near-eschatological discussions about the morality of their former friend. "If you were to assemble all the people who used to support Newt but have turned against him, you'd have an unbeatable coalition," says Lee Howell, a Carrollton, Ga., journalist who worked with him in his early campaigns for Congress. L. H. (Kip) Carter, a former campaign treasurer, calls Gingrich "the most amoral man I have ever met." Gingrich's former pastor in Morrow, Ga., the Rev. Brantley Harwell, will only refine that charge a smidgen: "He is a politically amoral man."
He was liberal from the early days. A "Rockefeller Republican."
He headed to Tulane for a history Ph.D. and assumed the role of liberal Republican campus activist. He helped coordinate Nelson Rockefeller's 1968 presidential campaign in the Southeast. Exempted from the draft by his student status, he did not participate in the great anti-war and civil-rights crusades of his day. He did, however, lead protests against the Tulane administration, which sought to prevent the student newspaper from publishing pictures of nudes.

Finally, the Gingriches arrived in Carrollton, Ga., with two daughters in tow. He took up a post at West Georgia State College and built a reputation as a liberal thinker in a land of redneck Democrats. He was popular, with a reputation as an easy grader; his annual pig roasts were big events. He founded an environmental-studies program and taught a futurism course. If his lectures rambled a bit, his intellectual effervescence and far-out ideas kept his students' interest.
As the minority whip, he showed his leadership skills by reading pulp novels during negotiations.
So, later, did some people in the White House. During last year's budget summit, Gingrich, as a leader, sat at the table while negotiators from both parties attempted to hammer together a five-year, deficit-busting deal. While the others bickered, Gingrich read pulp novels. "It was incredible, the arrogance of it," fumed one participant.
When democrats wanted to cut the SS payroll tax, he became very supportive of the current SS model and campaigned to "Save Social Security".
Likewise, Gingrich had for years been calling for a radical overhaul of the Social Security system. But when Democrats started agitating last year for a cut in the Social Security payroll tax--a move that Administration officials argued would undermine the integrity of the system--Gingrich smelled political gold. He became a champion of Social Security and gleefully distributed buttons that read "Save Social Security, Vote Republican."

Can someone create a short counterpart for this containing Ron's votes on the same bills and positions on other things? Just the critical ones? I want to be able to copy and paste it to people (with both records).

Here is a comprehensive list of all the reasons to oppose Newt Gingrich. Please distribute and share this list freely. I will add things as I find them. Please tell me if you have anything that I have missed, and give me a source if possible. Point out any errors and I will try to correct them.

Short list: Newt Gingrich is a political chameleon that has inexplicably managed to fool conservatives for 30 years. He is a globalist to the bone and supports every opportunity to erode American sovereignty and the constitution. He disguises his statist positions with an abundance of flip-flopping and pandering as needed. He has a long history of expanding the Federal Government and deficit spending. He is the very definition of an Establishment Insider.

The perfect quote for Newt Gingrich:
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them." -- Jesus Christ

"The idea that a congressman would be tainted by accepting money from private industry or private sources is essentially a socialist argument." - Newt Gingrich

"[O]ur government, at all levels, must be modernized to successfully partner, let alone compete, with the private sector." -- Newt Gingrich, A Contract with the Earth (p.196)

"The U.S. government operates endowments for the humanities and the arts…Perhaps, it is time we consider a new endowment for conservation and the environment." -- Newt Gingrich, A Contract with the Earth (pp. 115-116)

"We agree that there is plenty of evidence that global climate change is occurring…While humanity is certainly causing its fair share of the change, scientists are still not able to precisely pinpoint the extent of the change, or the margin of error in their estimates." -- Newt Gingrich, A Contract with the Earth (p. 200)

"In spite of the demonstrated liberal leanings in academia, we have nothing but respect for the nation’s scientists. They represent America’s best hope to protect the environment. We support a dramatic increase in science and technology research and development because we desperately need to understand global climate change and other environmental phenomena." -- Newt Gingrich, A Contract with the Earth (p. 201)

"If you import a commercial quantity of illegal drugs, it is because you have made the personal decision that you are prepared to get rich by destroying our children. I have made the decision that I love our children enough that we will kill you if you do this." -- Newt Gingrich (source)

"What we're being told is that free trade with Mexico would devastate the U.S. economy. With its low wages, Mexico would unleash a flood of cheap imports into our markets. There would be a mass exodus of U.S. factory jobs, as hordes of American companies fled across the border.... All this is scare talk." -- Newt Gingrich, on the House floor 9/22/1993. (source)

Q: "Will you rally the troops for GATT and the World Trade Organization?"
A: "Yes. In the first place, the Administration has accepted amendments of Senator Dole and myself giving Congress dramatically more oversight of the WTO, including the right to bring up a vote on withdrawal every five years in perpetuity, so at any point that we think it is out of control or inappropriate, we can simply withdraw." -- Newt Gingrich, 11/11/1994 (source)

"The American challenge in leading the world is compounded by our Constitution. Under our [constitutional system] - either we're going to have to rethink our Constitution, or we're going to have to rethink our process of decision-making." He went on to profess an oxymoronic belief in "very strong but limited federal government," and pledged, "I am for the United Nations." -- Newt Gingrich, July 1995, speech at the Center for Strategic & International Affairs (source)

“I think we’re seeing around the world an emerging Third World War from North Korea to Pakistan to India to Afghanistan to Iraq and Iran to the increasing alliance between Venezuela and Iran to the British terrorists who are getting trained in Pakistan.” -- Newt Gingrich, 2006, interview with Greta Van Sustren

On executing people for drug offenses: "The first time we execute 27 or 30 or 35 people at one time, and they go around Colombia and France and Thailand and Mexico, and they say, 'Hi, would you like to carry some drugs into the U.S.?' the price of carrying drugs will have gone up dramatically." -- Newt Gingrich, 1995 (NY Times)

"See, when I smoked pot it was illegal, but not immoral. Now, it is illegal AND immoral. The law didn't change, only the morality… That's why you get to go to jail and I don't." -- Newt Gingrich, 8/8/1996, Wall Street Journal (source)

When asked if he would change or repeal the Patriot Act: "No, I would not change it. I'm not aware of any specific change it needs. And I'd look at strengthening it, because I think the dangers are literally that great." -- Newt Gingrich, 11/22/2011, CNN Debate (source)

"This is, by the way, one of the great tragedies of the Bush Administration. The more successful they've been at intercepting and stopping bad guys, the less proof there is that we're in danger. And therefore the better they've done at making sure there isn't an attack, the easier it is to say that there was never going to be an attack anyways. And its almost like they should, every once in a while, have allowed an attack to get through, just to remind us. Think about the psychology. Why do we wrap up so many people? Well, because we wiretapped. And again, I'm going to be a little controversial. I would divide the FBI into two agencies. I would have an anti-domestic-crime FBI which was very cautious, very respectful of civil liberties. You are innocent until proven guilty. And I would have a small but VERY aggressive anti-terrorism agency. And I would frankly give them EXTRAORDINARY ability to eavesdrop. And my first advice to civil libertarians is simple: Don't plot with terrorists." -- Newt Gingrich, 4/29/2008 (source)

In March 1993, I got an assistance program I could support: $1.6 billion in direct aid to help Russia stabilize. Although a public poll said that 75% of the American people were opposed to giving Russia more money, and we were already in a hard fight for the economic plan, I felt we had no choice but to press ahead. American had spent trillions of dollars in defense to win the Cold War; we couldn't risk reversal over less that $2 billion and a bad poll. To the surprise of my staff, the congressional leaders, including the Republicans, agreed with me. At a meeting I convened to push the plan, Senator Joe Biden, the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, strongly endorsed the aid package. Newt Gingrich was passionately in favor of helping Russia, saying it was a "great defining moment" for American and we had to do the right thing. -- Bill Clinton, 2004 (My Life, p. 506-507).

"Professor Gingrich hopefully will never be called upon to teach a course in the proper role of our federal government. His rare votes against bloated big government usually have been prompted by the partisan wrangling of the moment, not by any great respect for, or understanding of, the Constitution." --James Toft of “Tax Reform Immediately” (TRIM)

AWESOME!!!! Thank you for your help spreading this around. However, I have a really important addition to make -- Newt's article about wanting "World War III". See my next post. This info must be added. It is literally the most psycho thing that he stands for.

Gingrich openly calls for World War III

CFR Newt Gingrich should be crowned the King of the Neocons. His entire worldview revolves around this goal of waging war on the rest of the world. He openly called for WW3 in one of his op-ed articles. He is the poster child for the New World Order. This shouldn't surprise us with his long history of representing the CFR and disturbing record of globalism.

In his own words from his 2006 Wall Street Journal article, "Lincoln and Bush," Gingrich says that the United States should adopt a "dramatically larger" budget for policing the world. He calls our current spending levels a "pseudo-war budget." Clearly not enough Trillions have been pissed into the sand yet.

He repeatedly uses words like "aggressive" in his article, and called his plan "World War III" four times.

On his hit list for World War III, he names Iran, Syria, North Korea, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia. Last week put Cuba on notice that he would try to topple their government in the first 2 years. These wars will be waged in addition to the other globalist wars already-in-progress in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Pakistan, Sudan, Congo, Uganda, and Central African Republic.

He also calls for "new national security and homeland security organizations." He has echoed these wishes previously in his other speeches. DHS, TSA, FBI, CIA, are not enough for Newt. He wants more agencies with "extraordinary powers" to spy on Americans. He has also previously stated that terror suspects will "not have rights" under his iron-fisted rule.

Researching Newt Gingrich has convinced me that he is the absolute worst possible outcome for America in 2012. Worse than the other Republican choices, and worse than Barack Obama, hindered by a Republican congress. He will usher in an era of outright fascism if he gets his way. I am quite sure I will be unimpressed with his nominees and supreme court justices as well.

Newt:
"Following this initiative, the president should propose a dramatic and deep overhaul of homeland security grounded in metrics-based performance to create a system capable of meeting the seriousness of the threat. The leaders of the new national security and homeland security organizations should be asked what they need to win this emerging World War III, and then the budget should be developed. We need a war budget, but we currently have an OMB-driven, pseudo-war budget. The goal of victory, ultimately, will lead to a dramatically larger budget, which will lead to a serious national debate. We can win this argument, but we first have to make it." -- Newt Gingrich

"Beyond our shores, we must commit to defeating the enemies of freedom in Iraq, starting with doubling the size of the Iraqi military and police forces. We should put Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia on notice that any help going to the enemies of the Iraqi people will be considered hostile acts by the U.S. In southern Lebanon, the U.S. should insist on disarming Hezbollah, emphasizing it as the first direct defeat of Syria and Iran--thus restoring American prestige in the region while undermining the influence of the Syrian and Iranian dictatorships. Further, we should make clear our goal of replacing the repressive dictatorships in North Korea, Iran and Syria, whose aim is to do great harm to the American people and our allies." -- Newt Gingrich

Thumb prints to buy guns

06/27/1997 - Newt advocates a federal biometrics database, requiring thumb-prints to buy guns.

"I think we prefer to go to instant check on an immediate basis and try to accelerate implementing instant checks so that you could literally check by thumb print whether there was a convicted felon with dangerous behavior or dangerous mental behavior. Instant check is a much better system than the Brady process." -- Newt Gingrich, June 27, 1997 (source)

Hipster Newt was Tea Partying before it was cool

12/04/2011 - He claims that he "represented the spirit of the Tea Party before there was a tea party."

I wonder what point of his career he believes that was. He began by creating the Department of Education... ended with promoting bailouts.

Newt's endorsement of "The Third Wave"

Newt has a strange fascination with the writings of Alvin & Heidi Toffler. Gingrich told his peers in congress that they all must read their book The Third Wave. Gingrich then went on to write the forward to their subsequent book, Creating a New Civilization: The Politics of the Third Wave.

Here Jerry Doyle discusses the book & Newt Gingrich:

What they refer to as the "Third Wave" is the last leap of mankind from nationalism toward globalism. It is a poetic way of endorsing and promoting the New World Order.

Creating a New Civilization: The Politics of the Third Wave

Here is an excerpt from the book that Gingrich is so fascinated with:

===============
"The time has come for the next great step forward in American politics. It is not a matter of Democrats versus Republicans, or of left and right...but something more significant...a clear distinction between rear-guard politicians who wish to preserve or restore an unworkable past and those who are ready to transition to what we call a “Third Wave” information-age society…

A new civilization is emerging in our lives, and blind men everywhere are trying to suppress it. This new civilization brings with it new family styles, changed ways...a new economy, new political conflicts, and...altered consciousness... Humanity faces a quantum leap forward. This is the meaning of the Third Wave…

Our argument is based on what we call the “revolutionary premise”... The revolutionary premise liberates our intellect and will.

Nationalism is...First Wave. The globalization of business and finance required by advancing Third Wave economies routinely punctures the national “sovereignty” the nationalists hold so dear...

As economies are transformed by the Third Wave, they are compelled to surrender part of their sovereignty... Poets and intellectuals of Third Wave states sing the virtues of a “borderless” world and “planetary consciousness.”

The Third Wave...demassifies culture, values, and morality... There are more diverse religious belief systems.

The Constitution of the United States needs to be reconsidered and altered...to create a whole new structure of government... Building a Third Wave civilization on the wreckage of Second Wave institutions involves the design of new, more appropriate political structures... The system that served us so well must, in its turn, die and be replaced."
