Colbert takes sarcastic jab at Ron Paul

Now I've seen it again, I'm even more convinced then the first two times... I don't like Colbert; he comes across very phony.
That's because he is phony. It's a character. An act. His character is a caricature of Bill O'Reilly. And yes, all of those points mentioned were sarcastic.

He's essentially a loose parody of Hannity, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, et al. He's supposed to be the typical neocon, know-nothing, blowhard, who has an uninformed opinion, and want to jam it down your throat, but in an almost Phil Donahue-esque manner. If you're in on the joke, and not its butt, he has his moments.

yeah if you just watch he'll say stuff like "bush may have a 30% approval rating, but you know, doesn't that just mean that 70% of people approve of the job he's not doing"
and
"hitler had a 99% approval rating when he was in power. bush is simply just trying to be as least like hitler as possible!"

Alright; if he's supposed to be doing a certain 'character' then:

1) I didn't get it;

2) Apparently most neo-cons neither as they think he's for real.

3) I think it was quite obvious he was portraying Ron Paul as a 'fringe' candidate.

When he was saying the 'siding with the president' really nobody was laughing and everybody took it serious.

His show is on Comedy Central , so it's not a serious show. He is a parody of Bill O'Reilly and trust me everyone watching knows he is joking.

You are probably not familiar with it because the show won't get much press outside the USA and Canada being as it is a comedy show.

I haven't watched Comedy Central in months and I turned it on today to see Colbert interviewing a woman about Hillary. He went on a rant about how Hillary will kidnap men and steal their semen blah blah weird stuff and then he added "but I also believe that about Ron Paul"

I took it as a sarcastic remark about how fake conservatives are scared of him.. since Colbert is an actor and mimics neo cons

That was not good for Ron Paul. Colbert made the mental association of "kooky behavior" with "Ron Paul" and blurted out his name. And, the audience didn't think it was very funny.

Approximately 28% of Republicans don't know Colbert is making fun of them and think he's great.

Approximately 28% of Republicans also still approve of W.

I don't think that's a coincidence.

Colbert

The Daily Show / Colbert Report are some of the best news reporting around. They are not MSM, they cut right to the chase.

It's great comedy. Also their interviews are usually good with guests are across the spectrum on all ideas. Sometimes they shine - their coverage on topics like Halliburton were a great way to let the masses know how badly they were getting screwed.

As to Colbert, he's amazing. He can satire the Fox news conservative reporters so very well. Besides, how can you dislike the guy who gave such an amazing White House Correspondents Dinner speech?

"Fox News gives you both sides of the story — the president's side and the vice president's side"

Or the best line I've heard about the media in a long time :

"But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works: the president makes decisions. He's the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know - fiction!"

I'm glad someone posted this. Can someone tell me what's up with his infatuation of Huckabee? Is that for real?

Well, Huckabee meshes with his character more. He was also polling VERY low before going on his show and getting "The Colbert Bump". Huckabee joked that he would make Colbert his running mate. That's the cliff notes :)

Good God. Colbert is an act! He's a comedian. He doesn't believe anything he says on that show. How could you not figure that out by now? His infactuation with Huckabee is a gimmick. Jesus Christ. As he says himself in this behind the scenes look with John Kerry, his character is an idiot.

Colbert did a joke on the Huckabee push polling and I would agree with you that his religious neocon persona works well with the religious zealot that is Huckabee. I wish Ron Paul would come on the show or atleast joke around with him some more like Huckabee. Lots of young people watch Colbert and they don't care if a canidate is "fringe" or not.

Colbert gets tons of viewers who don't take him literally. Ron Paul's appearance was a big plus.

Doesn't this thread belong in the "Bad media reporting" forum?

Thanks. I've been watching the show since it aired and remember the Huckabee bump. However lately, he's championing Huck so much lately it through me. I kept telling my husband that we need him and Jon Stewart back on the air for this election to call out the BS.

Bleh; I don't like Colbert at all; he's supposed to be funny but he isn't at all. And if you compare how he acted to Ron Paul during his talkshow compared to Jay Leno, Bill Maher or Jon Stewart, he was the only one who was taking sarcastic jabs at Ron Paul.

Trust me, the last thing you want is for on air Colbert to be agreeing with you.

Uhm, that is what he does. He plays a character, and that is his character.

He does that with every single guest. Come on now.
