CNN: Hawaii Gov. tries to end birther debate once and for all

So the OP was on 12/28. Surely this is over by now? :p

What? Over? Did you say "over"?

Nothing is over until we decide it is!

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Hell no!

And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough...The tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!

What the fuck happened to the Ron Paul Forums I used to know?

Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh?

This could be our chance to prove to the world that we are Paultards, that we are Tin Foil Hatters, but you're gonna let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid, we might get laughed at."

Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this.

I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part!

We're just the guys to do it!

Birthers! Truthers! LETS DO IT!

(My apologies for stealing the words of Senator Blutarski, who, despite his 0.0 GPA, is not crazy enough to be a birther).

Ha Ha Ha...the birthers and Terry Lakin now have more credibility than libertarian4321

I guess both of you are too young to even recognize a little John Belushi humor a la movie 1941* when you see it. Hell you probably don't even know who John Belushi is. :-)
Kids these days

*Edit: Actually I think the movie was Animal House which actually just makes it worse.

Me: Hey that guy just lost his house to the banksters!

SHUT UP we're debating over whether or not Obama was born in America!

Me: But why should that matter when he's a puppet?

SHUT UP you anarcho-capitalist. Go back to the Mises Institute because us nationalists are too busy being distracted!

Shh, he's on a roll.

Thank you, Zippyjuan ^^^ That dog sucked, though.

:)

For the record, I don't consider myself a birther. It has just not be sufficiently proven to me that he was born in this country, so I'm on the fence.

But I'd much rather be considered a birther than someone who actually believes that pathetic excuse for a birth certificate is sufficient while knowing he has spent millions to keep from providing the real one.

That did not take effect until 1982- 21 years after Obama was born and his original birth certificate issued.
The law in effect when Obama was born did not even require the one year residency in section (b). Basically Hawaii would issue a birth certificate to almost anybody who said they had a baby.

ANy link for that?

This explains it all. The last desperate punches from a someone who knows they've lost the fight. It's clear from the election of George Washington, who's parents were British subjects and Thomas Jefferson, a French citizen, how the founding fathers felt about that requirement.

 It was clear that prior to the founding of the U.S. everybody was a British subject. Not just George Washington parents, but old George himself. I mean come on. Don't go silly just to win an argument. The founders cared enough about this to put it in the constitution. That's all that matters.

Thank you for the link. From what I am reading there, officials are still required to verify the birth so somebody could not easily make it up. The law is from 1949- prior to Hawaii becoming a state. Wondering if this was even effect in 1959 when Hawaii did become a state?

Edit- found more info reading further down the page.

Here is what the link says about 1959:
§338-5 Compulsory registration of births.

Within the time prescribed by the department of health, a certificate of every birth shall be substantially completed and filed with the local agent of the department in the district in which the birth occurred, by the administrator or designated representative of the birthing facility, or physician, or midwife, or other legally authorized person in attendance at the birth; or if not so attended, by one of the parents.

The birth facility shall make available to the department appropriate medical records for the purpose of monitoring compliance with the provisions of this chapter. [L 1949, c 327, §9; RL 1955, §57-8; am L Sp 1959 2d, c 1, §19; HRS §338-5; am L 1988, c 149, §1]

Case Notes:

Compulsory reporting not objectionable. 466 F. Supp. 714.

Highlighted portion seems to indicate that any application for registering a birth must be verified by local hospitals or facilities.

It does when such verification is possible - the other sections (home birth, etc.) just require a parent or witness to make a statement. But, that should be noted on the long form.

Indeed.

Yes, but that doesn't settle the issue:

Frankly I wish it did.

From the article:

"Obama was born before 1986 to married parents"

I thought perhaps his parents were unmarried at the time, though I can't recall for sure.

So you should be able to justify the millions spent to avoid showing said birth certificate then

Yup (let's assume for the moment that the figure is correct, though it probably isn't).

I'd do the same thing if I was Obama, for a couple of reasons.

First, the money is meaningless to him- he's got tons, so it's no big deal to spend this pittance to say "FUCK YOU" to the birther nuts. I'd probably do the same.

Second, Obama gains politically by using the birther nuts to show the irrationality of the opposition. He has no desire to get rid of these people. The "birthers" are to the Republican Party what the Storm Front "supporters" were to Ron Paul- unhinged supporters who do more harm than good.
