CNN Delegate Count???

Okay - quick question for you.

In my precinct (P-12 Maple Grove), RP got 12% in the straw poll (2nd place behind Romney landslide), but we were able to get him 33% (4 out of 12) delegates.

While I was hoping for a better showing, we were able to get a higher percentage of delegate positions than straw poll results, so I think that is encouraging.

So here's my question - How does CNN (or other media) say that Romney has 36 delegates from Minnesota? Are their numbers based on the meaningless straw poll? Or are they somehow concluding that the number of Romney delegates (8 out of 12 in my precinct) will simply over-power the other delegates?

This seems like a reasonable assumption. The only way RP could actually win some delegates at the state level would be if 50%+ of the precinct level delegates are Ron Paul supporters sent as trojan horses.

There are other precincts that went entirely to RP in delegate count. Let's play the hypothetical that those precincts balance the delegate count. It would be unlikely that one candidate would win ALL of the delegates from Minnesota, right?

Alaska had similar straw poll results, yet CNN projects delegates to all 4 people. Why does CNN give all delegates to Mitt in Minnesota?

Our Caucus convener explained it like this:

The straw poll result amounts to nothing. The delegates are who choose. But the straw poll *generally* gives an idea of where the support for the delegates lie so the media will use that to say who won the delegates. He was not a Ron Paul supporter to my knowledge.

I think this is a posiblity, I have no doubt of a Ron Paul majority.

As a general rule, the delegate numbers reported by the mainstream media are false. They oversimplify the process in their reporting. Nevada, for example has awarded no delegates, yet they parrot the lie that it has. Maine also has awarded none, Lousiana has awarded none, etc., etc. Every state has a different and often convoluted process, so rather than explain each state's process, they say "we'll just tell them it's like this" when really the reality is quite different.

CNN's Minnesota delegate count is false. CNN actually appears to be on the right track as far as Alaska and North Dakota, however. Well, even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Moral is: we learn once again once we already knew, that he media lies, distorts, and misinforms, and nothing they "report" should be trusted. Ever.

Ramsey and Hennepin county will give RP most of his County Delegates. The problem is slate voting which works so well in Precints works against RP on the County and State level. The MSM is probably right, give or take 1 delegate in each of the States.

They do this all the time. Never mention that RP got any delegates. They seem to equate winning straw poll with getting all delegates. Lazy reporting that serves to make our guy look bad. But that is okay. Better they do NOT know how many delegates RPgets.
