CNN cost us Iowa

CNN doesn't have that many viewers, they don't even get a million viewers during the daytime when the Borger interview first aired. CNN's nighttime lineup is rated 3rd behind both Fox News and MSNBC.

But what CNN was doing was picked up by the rest of the MSM on TV, radio, print, and online. It was spread EVERYWHERE.

everyone watches cnn, fox news watches cnn and all the media outlets report the same stories.

Fox doesn't get their stories from CNN, the Santorum surge came from Rupert Murdoch, these globalists all work together, don't assume that CNN by themselves invented a Santorum surge, they were acting under orders from the financial elite.

But if Fox News didn't hate Paul we wouldn't have to rely on all of these Independents to help us.

Sure Fox is to blame too like the rest of the MSM, but this last barrage by CNN is what really did us in at the end.

It's too little too late now on the newsletter issue. That'll have to wait until after the GOP primaries.

(Gather all the documents, publish them online, and sit Paul down for a one-on-one interview with Wolf Blitzer to discuss the issues in-depth for 30-60 minutes. Add that video to the site hosting the documents, and let that be it.)

Yep. Should've done this in the summer - Imagine if they had put together their own, un-biased, well-researched report along with a long interview and/or speech... does anyone here think that CNN, FOX, etc could've turned the newsletters into a 24/7 HitJob 2 weeks before the vote in Iowa??

There aren't any primaries in the late summer/early-fall... would've been plenty of time to rebound from the initial wave of attacks

I don't think the Gloria interview had anything to do with it. We were rising during that period and continued to rise after they smeared.

Yep, that would have been brilliant. Preemptively disarming the media. Wish somebody at the campaign would have thought of that.

It's the media stupid.

Where did CNN's Gloria Borger got the idea to ask about newsletters? Who singlehandedly instigated the newsletters into this 2012 campaign and literally begged for the media to go after Ron Paul ONE DAY after a particular poll on the 15th or 16th December? That's right: Fox News' Sean Hannity.

In other words, this isn't about one network versus another.

Do not EVER think for a moment and have the illusion that there is a "RP friendly" MSM outlet out there.

A got a speeding ticket today.

That damn cop shouldn't have been hiding in the woods.

Maybe, Dr Paul shouldn't have had his name applied to questionable newsletters.

I can't change the fact I was speeding and Dr Paul can't take the newsletters back.

You can't blame CNN for latching onto low hanging fruit.

It wasn't just that they brought them up, it was the narrative that went along with the "reporting". They made Ron out to be a racist and constantly made it sound as if he wrote them. This narrative was then broadcast for over a week without much of a defense by Paul's campaign. It visibly hurt his poll numbers as you saw tonight. 21.5% of the vote in Iowa is much lower than the 25% he was polling prior to the newsletter story.

Reality = on 12/18ish, the orange line (RP's line) changes direction abruptly. Real Clear Politic's poll shows the exact same trend. This wasn't a soft bend like Romney's either.

Why keep pushing the line that the newsletter controversy didn't hurt? The polls make it crystal clear that they did.

I believe it is more accurate to say the newsletters didn't hurt us as much as some feared. It was enough to knock us out of first place though.

Yet. The fact the campaign has not FULLY addressed this issue, with an OFFICIAL press conference, I think means it will continue to be an issue...it doesn't matter how many times RP will say, "I didn't write them. I don't know who did. I disavow them.". They will beat a dead horse, until there is nothing left to beat.

And what could RP say that would shut them up?

Maybe only the full true story of exactly who wrote them, what was known when, and what Ron did about it. I fear the reason this was not done is that the true story is harmful is well. Ron clearly did not write them, but I suspect a close associate of his did and that he still does or did associate with this person after the fact. This would be an extremely damaging blow if the media could get a hold of this.

I suspect Lew Rockwell... Am I alone in this?

Unfortunately I suspect that as well. Could be the theory I've seen a number of places that this was a dumb political strategy and that the writer(s) actually weren't even racist themselves. And if this is the case, coming out with that news at this point would be a massive hit to the Ron Paul campaign that may be too big to overcome. Lew was his chief of staff, and has been a close friend and associate for a very long time. The media would have even more of a field day out of this as he would be directly and willingly tied to Lew.

Blame the campaign for that. The Gloria Borger interview was clearly a hit piece, BUT RP should not have walked out like he did. The fact he wasn't prepared in a better way, and the FACT they still have not held a press conference on the issue is really beyond me. Herman Cain was out in FULL defense over his supposedly false "accusations", but the RP campaign basically allowed him to be slandered for 2 full weeks with very little defense...and the difference is the RP campaign SHOULD HAVE KNOWN it would/could be an issue...heck I emailed an adviser BEFORE the Gloria Borger interview, on December 13, letting him know RP better be prepared for ANYTHING in regards to the newsletters issue.

In hindsight, the newsletter issue wasn't handled as well as it could have been. They should have had a game plan in place before the campaign was even announced.

y'all are absolutely right, but many say to trust the campaign, they know what they are doing. But, the upside is that there is great room for improvement. But they need someone else w/more experience on his management team. Someone to work on his image, and prepare him for brutal negative comments. I don't know how many times I've seen his facial expression and speech turn when he gets stumped or flustered. Its so obvious. And they are basic subconscious things he could work on. I'm just concerned w/whoever is assisting in that area of the campaign.

Right。The attacks are clearly going non-stop until Paul is down, as planned. It is not a good move trying to dodge that.
