i said that plants and soils can store carbon only up to a certain degree.
an ecosystem is not a one way consumer of carbon. otherwise our soils would be already made out of pure carbon.

there is a certain amount of carbon the soil can store. and not more. an untouched ecosystem is therefore in balance (the exact quantity of this carbon cycle is to find on the wikipedia site of soil respiration to give one random source).
of course increased woodland will store additional co2. but only up to a certain degree. if you've ever been to britain or the netherlands or germany you'll know that it will be hard to increase those greenland areas in those regions. and if you take into account that the world population is fastly rising which means that we will need additional farmland instead of woods and cities all over the world are expanding i'd say that this theory will not be the solution for the problem. but actually people have calculated those possibilities already. on the german wikipedia site you'll even find the amount of carbon which could be stored via reforestation.

there are studies by the university of basel and the Paul Scherrer Institute which show that trees are emitting addtional co2 through soil respiration. so it is not stored in the soil it's given back to the atmosphere.

No, it hasn't. The fact a child knows how to use tree ring data doesn't falsify anything.

Again, the only thing disputed in Mann's graph was the "flat shaft" portion of the graph (approximation of past temperatures using proxy indicators). Temperatures in the past 50 years have reliable directly measured data, and isn't disputed at all. Global warming doesn't depend on Mann's graph, as so many people ignorant "skeptics" like to think.

Meh. I don't really care about the rep thingamabob, Travlyr. It's just a dot. I read relevant points from both sides of just about all topics of interest here. Both usually have some merit and I think that's a good thing. The fact that people come here to discuss such things is a plus in itself. Shouldn't paint them red. Picture pages doesn't get shit done. The entire subject is broad beyond the brief few scribbles we see here and I think you know that. The problem that I have with that practice though is that the broader perspective isn't always considered when people go around slapping red dots on posters. Everyone contributes something to various discussion. Better to pick it apart in synergy than to negate it. So...I'll await my rose petal(s). That's what I call em.

It's not fair to apply the meme about this is the Ron Paul forum and we have to conform to his standard solely premised upon one's own comprehension of it. I had seen this meme scribbled over in the Religion thread some time ago and the same meme was applied to discussion. I think it was something like - Ron believes this and that so by default so must we if we are to discuss relevant issues here-- or something like that. Well...the thing is that I support a tremendous amount of Ron's view on the world. Doesn't mean I don't disagree with some things he promotes. In fact I agree with the majority of what he brings to the table. Just means I look at other perspectives too. He's a doctor. He's not an astrophysicist. Which may negate his view on some things to some extent.

Have also been asked by some posters "what are YOU doing to promote this and that?" Well...sometimes, I thing they'd crap their pants if they ever got the answer. Really. Just because they ask it doesn't automatically mean they are doing anything more relevant or important.

There was a video here some place as well that was rather well done but it ended with the old "What are YOU doing?" gag. I thought to myself "If only junior knew."

I would imagine we have a very broad base of different occupations here and folks with tremendously different backgrounds. Education, technology, poliics, you name it. It's broad. so...use it or lose it.

What other variables do you suggest they test and rule out? (Funny thing is, skeptics never answer this, because whatever they've throw out has been tested and either ruled out, or put in its place)

Sorry to take so long in my reply, I had to get some sleep.

I guess it depends on how one would determine a certain variable has been ruled out. I would question the variable of solar activity. I'm not talking about how bright the sun is, but rather coronal mass ejections and how active they are and if they are directed at the earth. I would also question the variable of ocean currents and how the earth itself may be warming the oceans from within.

I am pretty sure, it is mostly solar activity. We had a great deal of activity this spring and following that activity, there was a sudden warming trend followed by a drought. I don't want to hear about some clown on another pro global warming web site saying some silliness about that being ruled out. As you have pointed out, the petroleum industry has it's web sites that you won't listen to and since that is the case, I have decided not to listen to the government sponsored web sites claiming the opposite. Seems that should be fair.
